Hello
Can anyone help me to find out more about my great great granddad. I think he was born in 1811 in Shrewton he was a tailor and had six children. his wifes name was Cecelia but I do not have her maiden name.I have found him as still living in Shrewton in 1841 but after that he dissapears.
Thanks
Bob

Well done Cheryle, Wow a Town Crier! ;D
-
;D Thanks IRRET, couldnt find them for love nor money.....so decided to track the youngest child first Henry and see what had happened to him. He was in the Warminster for 71 and 81 as a married man but couldnt find him in the 61 so went hunting 8). In went his first name and date of birth and 3,000 :P Henry's later( just joking ...You know how it is)up came Henry Sidbury with Father Alfred and Mother Cecilia....cant find them in the 51 though...for love nor money.... ;)
best wishes cheryle.f

I found Henry married in 71 and 81 and like you no surname and parents but could have only looked at 2,000 well done again a great feeling. I can't believe Sidbury. :o
-
??? Oh just to add i checked the whole of 1851 Shrewton and Warminster last night page by page....not there .( nothing on tele) ::). Do you know if there is any of Warminster missing though. I couldnt seem to find the same place that they were living in the 61 at all ??? I wonder what wonderful interpretation of Ledbury the enumerator has in the 51 ...I would put money on them being there somewhere as the other children were born in between 1842,1848, 1847 and there are no clues to the fact that they moved very far.......
regards cheryle
-
:)m I've just realized...between1831 and 1847 Cecilia had nine children :o. There must be some clues to where they all were between 51 and 61 :-\

Soooooooooooo frustrating I can't find any births as that would give us mother's maiden name nor a marriage. >:(
-
:) OK....i'm going to post this anyway even though i even have to be convinced. Bob at the start never gave us any concrete proof except the 41 that his rellie was anything other than a Ledbury? Considering the problem you are having with marriages/births etc. and i am here still looking for the children....what if he was a Lidbury. In the 61 census Alfred is described as being b Warminster. In 51 in Warminster there is a big family of Lidbury with a George(a tailor) at the head, (could be brother)with wife Grace and family. I also found somewhere along the lines a Cecelia Lidbury death in Warminster last night though i didn't jot it down as didnt seem relevant at time. What do you think Irret ??? or am i going quietly mad :-\
cheryle
-
:D Well maybe not so mad after all......
Julia Lidbury A/M/J/ 1845 Warminster v111 ?35
Albert Edmund Lidbury J/F/M 1847 Warminster 8 449(poss for Albert)
Male Lidbury O/N/D/ 1843 Warminster V111 42D
(poss for Arthur or only other one is Amesbury 1842)
Edward Austin Lidbury A/M/J 1842 Warminster V111 445
There is another family of Lidburys in Salisbury...again Tailors :)

Hello Cheryl and Irret
Wow what can I say I go away for a few hours and you have achieved more than i have in months.I love the idea of a town crier I have also found a Company Sargent Major, a ships bosun and a music hall barker in my ancestry so its no wonder my wife says I have big mouth its in my genes. (Thats my excuse any way)Can I say a most sincere thankyou for your help so far. I am going to be busy for a while checking and writing all this up.
Thanks again

Sorry cheryle I forgor the e please forgive me

;D Afternoon Bob....just come back on and glad to see that your so pleased ;D. It looks pretty certain that they are going to be Lidbury's and not Leadburys as that spelling only seems to come into play in the different census's. I would like to wait till later and see what thoughts Irret has on that subject but one thing is sure that is during the very early 1800's a massive family of Lidbury's staring forming in Warminster and right through from the 41 onwards they were all Tailors. I would be very surprised to find out that that trade didnt carry through the years and these families maybe had shops in Warminster :)
Still looking for the 51 :-\

Even looking back at Alfred's generation (1808) there seemed to be so many male Lidburys. It would be interesting to see just how many male children his mum and dad had and how many branches that little lot sprouted ;D

Hi all
Just found this thread, two years after it was started. Fascinating stuff as I have a lot of info on the Warminster Lidburys. Can I just utter a word of extreme caution about the family of Edward Castleman Lidbury. There were two Edward Castlemans, a father and a son, who both married at around the same time, and both having children at the same time. Don't think that this is the same man getting married twice in quick succession, as you will very quickly become stuck.
Good Luck with this huge family,
Dale lidbury

Hello,
As I have been having some problems with tracing the Lidbury's myself I thought I would check some of the forums on here & after this was started 6 yrs ago I have found more info for myself!
One thing I will say I have Alfred Lidbury born 1811 in Warminster, Wiltshire but I have his death as 1841. I dont have any citation for that fact & to be honest I can't remember now how I got that date! But would appreciate anyone who can verify that.
I am grateful as I now have the maiden name of his wife Cecilia, so I thankyou all for that information.

Hello
While I was searching for information about Edward Castleman Lidbury born 1743 Warminster, I came across this thread. I believe that we are connected to the same Lidbury’s. My grandmother before she married was a Lidbury, and her family all originate from the Warminster area. Edward Castleman Lidbury I believe is my 4 x great grandfather, and I connect to the branch of his son George Lidbury 1798. I think he was the brother of Alfred Lidbury. I will happily fill anyone interested in this side of the family in, and any other information would be gratefully received.
Thanks Charlotte

Hi Charlotte
I have loads of information on the Warminster Lidbury's, although I cannot connect them to my own Frome tree yet. I believe you are correct when you say George was the brother of Alfred. However, I am pretty certain that they were the children of Edward C. jun. who was the son of the Edward Castleman baptised in 1743. Edward snr. married twice, the second time to Susanna Gibbons who must have been considerably younger than him because they were having children at the same time as Edward C. junior and his wife Mary Gaisford. It makes the tracing of this family very confusing, but I would be delighted to help if required.
Just recently I have purchased a book called "The History Of Warminster" and there is a list of Volunteers from the Warminster Loyal Association, formed duringthe French Revolution , and was a type of Home Guard, to protect the town and an area of 7 miles around. It was inaugurated on 3 July 1798. Edward Castleman Lidbury was listed as a Private, (and it was probably Edward C. jun who would have been aged 22) as one of the Sergeants was John Gaisford. Was he related to Mary Gaisford? If you have any questions on the family, I would be delighted to help.
