Hello Diane,
My husbands grandmother was a Flora Alice Chamberlain b1878 North Cadbury.

Hello Charmaine
Thank you for responding - I had begun to think I was the only Chamberlain descendant left !!!!
I have not yet found a Flora Chamberlain, but the date of her birth suggests she would perhaps be daughter or cousin of one of my gt grandfather Henry's siblings / uncles. If your husband knows either of Flora's parents names I could probably establish a link - I don't think North Cadbury was so big in the late 1800's!
My gt gt grandfather was George Chamberlain, married to Martha (Reade) they had Arthur, (Henry), Alice, Caroline, Elizabeth, Jane, Sarah John and Walter.
George's parents were Walter & Elizabeth and they had (George) Thomas, William, John, Mary, Edith and Frances. So there is plenty of potential for some living ancestors !
If you have any other bits 'n bobs pease let me know and I'll do some digging.
Regards
Diane

Hello Diane,
Flora Chamberlain's parents were.....Elias Chamberlain c1840 and Eleanor ( I believe nee A'Court)
they had Anna, Frank, Susanna, Mary, Herbert, Ada, and Flora
Elias parents were Ambrose Chamberlain c1798 (m) Silvia Baker
I have not found a George Chamberlain or a Walter Chamberlain in my tree, as yet, but with so many Chamberlain's they must be in there somewhere!
Regards, Charmaine

Hi Charmaine
Thanks for this - I was really excited (saddo!) when you mentioned the A'Court connection. I have been trying to trace someone with this for a few months. I saw someones entry in 'CuriusFox' about Chamberlains and A'Courts in Cadbury but there was no response from my enquiry. They sound as though they should have been wealthy ! and obviously not English ? I shall see if there is a connection between your tree and mine..
My line ended up in Essex by the way.

Hello,
I spent a week in North Cadbury researching the Chamberlains. It lead to a very large family dating back to Richard Chamberlain, who was born in North Cadbury. Can I be of any help. I have collected hundreds of Chamberlains in the surrounding areas that link to Richard and hundreds that are yet to be linked.
Andrew Chamberlain born in 1823 came to the US and had 13 children. The US contingent is quite large.

Dear Diane 14
I think I might have been ther person from curious fox - unable to respond as I didn't renew - anyway looks like you've had feed back from Charmaine - my relation is one of Flora's younger sisters Lilian Chamberlain. Their mother was Eleanor A'Court who first had a child out of marriage (Ellen Maria A'Court) Eleanor then married Elias Chamberlain they had six daughters and four sons Elias died Eleanor then had my grandma - then she remarried a Jospeh White and had another daughter and another son.
The A'Courts go back to approx 1580's
The Chamberlains are also a realy large extended family - I have a Frances Chamberlain c1793 marrying a Walter Chamberlain c 1812.
A good man called Sam Miller who lives in North Cadbury is the village historian and he has complied the Chamberlains back to 1535.
Over the years the cousins have married and there have been a few A'Court - Chamberlain marriages
Hear from you soon

Hello Stephen
Thanks so much for your response. I am assuming that you are living in America ?
I am particularly interested in Henry Chamberlain (details above on previous mail) He is my direct blood relative, but like so many surprises in Genealogy, no one knew of his existence until I found him. Everyone had presumed our granny Edith was the daughter of Charlotte Goodchild and the man she married - Alfred Walker. No one know she was Henry Chamberlains illegitimate child. I have traced Henry on the census - on board the St Vincent as a Marine in 1891, and working in a shop in 1901 - all the time shown as 'single' I have not been able to find his death, and I suppose the icing on the cake would be a photo of him, or his siblings to see if there is a family trait.
Are you onlyinterested in the Chamberlains, or would you like some descendant information ?
Regards
Diane

Hi Angelcake
Thank you for replying. As you can see, after a 'quiet' period it's all taken off ! I will have a rummage through and try and establish a link with Elias Chamberlain and my Chamberlains.
Stephen has obviously had quite a lot of success too !
Does Sam Miller accept enquiries ? If so, then I will give you a private email so you can let me have his details - he probably wont thank us for puttinghis contact details on this site !!!

Diane & Angelcake,
I met Sam Miller several years ago. He has a wealth of information and is a wonderful person. We have corresponded several times. My desktop computer is out of order at the present. It has all my data on Chamberlains including those linked and an Excel file with over 150 marriages and 250 births that are linked into families as far as I could go, but not in my Chamberlain genealogy at the present.
I have done DNA testing with two Chamberlains around North Cadbury and three in the US. This testing confirms my parish record work in the Taunton Archives. When I get my computer working next week, I will look at your names and see what I can find. Hopefully, we can help each other with the family.
Regards,
Stephen

Diane & Angelcake,
Here goes with my data on your lineage. All are North Cadbury, Somerset. Going back from Elias Chamberlain and Ellen Eleanor A'Court, Elias' dates are 1837-1879. Ellen's are 1843-1922. Elias' parents were Ambrose 1798-1863 and Sylvia Baker 1806-1873. Ambrose's parents were Jeremiah 1745-1808 and Jane Lamb 1758-1836. Jeremiah's parents were Ambrose 1718-1750 and Elizabeth Shaw. Ambrose's parents were Ambrose 1682-1741 and Jane. Ambrose's parents were John 1628-? and Eme Baker 1637-?. John's parents were John 1601-1678 and Joan d 1653. John's parents were Richard 1570-? and Agnes Chessock.
Richard's parents were Richard 1535-1585 and Alice died 1585.
Let's look at Walter, who was born in 1789 in North Cadbury. His parents were Thomas 1754 and Elizabeth. Thomas' parents were William 1722 and Johanna Fox. William's parents were Ambrose 1682, etc to Richard-1535.
I don't have my latest unlinked Chamberlain file, so I can't go foward from Ambrose-1837. I have a weath of information as you can see. but am uncomfortable sharing it this way. I hope this helps both of you. Any questions?
Regards,
Stephen

Hi There My grandfather was a John Joseph D Chamberlain born 1884 Exeter married emily Freeman 1907. This is all the information I can him have look in BMD census etc. Could you please look and see if there is a link between you Chamberlain's and John Joseph. Thanks
-
Good morning,
My unlinked Chamberlains in and around North Cadbury cover christenings between 1541 and 1905 and marriages between 1544 and 1904. The are light in the later years. If your links come into the line along this time, I would love you help in working on the unlinked names. Maybe with you help we could decrease the number significantly.
Stephen. I have a two year old photo of the North Cadbury house in which my great grandfather was born in in 1823.

Dear BRH47
Hi, at the moment my Chamberlains are completely stuck in North Cadbury Somerset, apart from one who managed to get to Porstmouth. So no-one on Exeter just yet, but I will keep a note of your man and see if anything links up in the future.

Hi, Johanna's son Alfred Beare, was my gg grandfather, through his son James. Does anyone have a confirmed parentage for Johanna's husband James? I have taken his birthplace as Yeovil, but it could be Barwick, which takes the line in a whole new direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have James down as being born in Barwick, where I obtained this info I cannot remember ( naughty I know, should have noted it down)

Hello,
One of my great great grandmothers was Jane Chamberlain from Crowcombe, Somerset.
She was baptised on 18/08/1823.
She married Joseph Purchase in 1848 in Beaminster.
I think her parents were James Chamberlain and Jane Gad, who married in Crowcombe in 1817.
Does this link up with any of you other Chamberlains?
:)
Edit: siblings of the 1823 Jane Chamberlain:
Sarah Chamberlain (1820)
James Chamberlain (1825)
William Chamberlain (1828)
Anne Chamberlain (1831)

Hi, My gg grandfather was William Chamberlain, born about 1829 in North Cadbury and married Elizabeth Mills from North Barrow, where they lived and had eleven children. The eldest of whom was Charles Chmberlain who married Jane Harvey from Ditcheat and had my grand mother Beatice born in Castle Cary. I don't know any details of his mother or father.
Let me know if this is of any interest

I am descended from the Chamberlains too. My ancestor was Johanna who married into the Beare family. Johanna was born around 1790 in South Cadbury. I don't know anything about her ancestors and would be grateful for any information.
Thank you.

I have just discovered Chamberlains in my family tree. My great-great grandmother was Elizabeth Chamberlain, daughter of Edward Chamberlain baptised St Lukes, Chelsea around 1832. Edward's father was Moses Chamberlain born 1803, and mother Harriet Georey. Moses gives Somerset as his birthplace, but married Harriet Georey in 1828 in Kensington. Georey doesn't seem to be a proper surname, so I am thinkng it may be a transcriber's error.
I thought with Moses as a first name, he would be easy to trace, but nooo. There seem to be quite a few Moses Chamberlains at various times. His profession is given as Sawyer. If anyone has any links that look promising, I'd be grateful to know thm :-).

Hi!
I am a descendant of Jeremiah Chamberlain who was died in North Cadbury in 1820 aged 39. There was a younger Jeremiah chamberlain in the village at that time as well.
I was wondering if you have any information about his ancestry.
Many thanks.

James (Ashforth)

Hi from Australia,
I see that you list the Frape family in your surname register. I am a descendant of John Frape. He was from Gloucestershire (is there a place called Noad - the immigration record looked like that??) the son of John Frape - deceased in 1857 when John immigrated - and Hannah. John did quite well for himself in Australia. I have been able to trace no further back than this. Anyone got any information on a John & Hannah Frape????? Narissa

Diane, Re Chamberlain. Not sure if I'm typing this reply in the right place - this website is confusing to use, also your post was years ago so you may have moved on. However, my great-great-great grandparents were also Walter and Elizabeth, then George & Martha Chamberlain of North Cadbury, followed by John Alfred and Amy Blanche. Regards LOUISE

Yep, this is still the worst, confusing website I have ever used. No idea if I am typing this in the right place or not. Brenda, if you are out there, let me know and I will attempt a reply to you re Chamberlain in North Cadbury connections. Thanks! LOUISE CHAMBERLAIN-COX

Hi from Australia,
Just finding out my family connection with the Chamberlain line, what an interesting discussion here! Just to add, my gr gr grandmother was Mary Jane Lloyd (nee Chamberlain). Her parents Elias and Eleanor Chamberlain.
Anyway, there was previous talk of cousins marrying. I think we're talking about Walter 1787-1865 and Frances Chamberlain 1793-1817 (nee Chamberlain), who's son was Ambrose Chamberlain born 1816.
Well I've stumbled across Ambrose's journey here in Oz... at the age of 20 Ambrose was a single man living in Bath, Somerset and caught committing the crime of stealing shirts on the 4th of July 1836. He was sentenced to 7 years as a convict to Australia arriving on the ship Norfolk 5 . After serving his time he was given freedom on the 20th Sept 1843.
Described as being ruddy and freckled, he married Mary Doyle in 1852 in Qeanbeyan, New South Wales and died in 1900. Buried at the Bungendore Cemetery.
Must visit next time I pass through.
Jess
