Could someone look up the marriage of Ann Morley and William Hill in Petworth for me? According to the IGI they were married on July 16 1805. Any further information about them, parents or occupation etc. would be brilliant!
I believe William Hill may have been from Dorking in Surrey, Ann from Petworth.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi Alisporter, I had a look at the Surrey Marriage Index.
William Hill married Ann Morley at Petworth on 16 July 1805. He was a bachelor and she was a spinster Both of this parish and by banns. So that confirms the IGI entry. No other details though.
Kerry :)

Thank you for checking. Shame there are no further details, but thanks anyway.

Alison, if you want to take this a step further for William HILL I have the Dorking registers.

Thank you for the offer Jane.
William Hill was born abt 1781 to George and Ann Bridger of Dorking. I think George was born back in Sussex (Thakeham).
Any further information would be great!
Thanks again,
Alison

Alison,
I can confirm the baptism;
16/2/1783 William Hill s/o George & Ann. St. Martins, Dorking.
The marriage of George Hill to Ann Bridger took place at Dorking, 12/8/1763. Both of this parish & by banns. From the Surrey Marriage Index,

Hi Alison
If you need this when I'm next in the West Sussex RO I can check the Petworth fiche for a baptism for Ann Morley - let me know.
Cheers Jan ;)

Thank you Jan, that would be very kind of you. I seem to have reached a brick wall with this line, so it would be a huge help if you found her baptism.

Hi Alison
I'll see what I can find - hopefully tomorrow or Thurs
Cheers Jan ;)

Hi Alison
Sorry no luck with Ann's baptism - some parts of the fiche were illegible so maybe she was there. However I didn't notice any Morley baptisms so maybe they were originally from elsewhere or she wasn't baptised, or possibly non-conformist?
Did find this - I know you have William down as from Dorking but I thought I'd post in case
William son of James and Sarah Hill Oct 19th 1783
Also don't know if you have these
Sarah daughter of Wm and Ann Hill born Oct 2nd 1805 christened Nov 3rd 1805
Anne daughter of William and Anne Hill born July 25th 1807 christened Sep 13th 1807
I looked on to 1812 but couldn't see anymore
I also checked the marriage entry they both left their mark, witnesses were Wm Pullen (he was the registrar) and R Steer
Hope this is of some help
Jan ;)
