Greetings,
Looking for a death of Hannah Jenkins- nee Williams. Her husband was William Jenkins.
She is last seen on the '41 census at a residence called Ty-yn-y-wain.
The other details are
Ystradgunlais
Civil Parish - Llanguich Hundred - Llangafelach
William 35 Collier
Hannah 40
Jenkin 15 Collier
Rees 13
Mary 11
Catherine 7
David 4
It says she is 40, but I think she may have been younger. She is also listed as Hannah Williams, but it is actually an error. She was married to William Jenkins. This I know for sure.
Her family came to Australia, but I believe she had died prior to their departure. I can't find her death details, here in Oz.
William re-married in 1852, here in Australia.
Any information would be gratefully received.
Regards,
Jamjar

Name: HANNAH JENKINS
Date: 22nd APR 1843
Address: MORRISTON Age 43 type T
Parish: Llangyfelach SS David & Cyfelach
Brian

Thanks Borneo.
I see it says it's a burial. Will there be some sort of cert for this?
Does this fit with the place they were in on the '41 census?
The age fits well.
What are Morriston, type T and SS David and Cyfelach?
Kindest regards,
Janice

I can't find the family in the 1841 Census (damn)
SS David and Cyfelach BMD records booklet. unfortunately, your book is the most expensive!

Map of the area: Insert Morriston in "find" for Swansea area.

Death:

Morriston is 5 miles from Neath
Sorry I couldn't have been of more help

Thanks, Brian. I'll take a look at the links.
I have her on the '41 census, see my original posting. It is definitely her.
Have a great evening/day.

Hi Janice,
The reason I wanted to look at the 1841 Census for myself, is to check the previous and following pages for addresses that are known today. This makes it easier to pinpoint your familes address.
Brian

Hi Brian,
The information came from Cas (StallC). Here is the top bit:
1841 - HO107/1419/9 Folio 3 Page 1
Reg district Neath
Sub-reg Ystradgunlais
Civil Parish - Llanguich Hundred - Llangafelach

Hi Jamjar, Borneo,
Having spent a few hours researching this family over a few occasions to help...the family lived in Llanguich or Llangiwg (same place) from at least the 1841 to 1849 when Jenkin wed.
If Hannah died within this time I would think she would be buried within the parish where her family lived, not the Swansea area. If unable to locate would then look to the surrounding areas for a possible burial. The Hundred of Llangafelach is a wide area, with many hamlets/parishes.
LLANGAFELACH , or LLANGYFELACH , a village , a parish , a sub - district , and a hundred in Glamorgan.
I believe from what we have learned, that they lived in Llangiwg, this booklet from the link Borneo posted, may help assist with further info for all family and possibly extended members.
Llangiwg, St.Ciwg; plus Pontardawe PRs
Just my thoughts....

Hi Cas,
Yes, I would have thought that she would be buried in the area. Stranger things have happened, though.
There is always the chance she died just before boarding the ship, so would have been buried near a sea port.
Only guessing I know.
I have just looked at the site for the booklet. Yes, it is much more expensive than any others. My luck! What would I expect to find in the booklet?

I think if it helped BMD for your family and possibly married partners details, it would be worth the £6.00 plus postage, cost is less than a one cert, but it would be up to you of course.
It is always hit or miss, you never know it may hold the maiden name of Williams mother or may only be info you already know.
It seems to have extensive info on the area with broad dates.
Llangiwg, St.Ciwg; plus Pontardawe PRs

Hi Cas,
As usual I am confused.
This is the one Brian suggested.
Llangyfelach, Ss.David & Cyfelach PRs
Booklet - Ref: GLA-BR069
Baptisms 1686-1905, Burials 1686-1863, Marriages 1693-1837 Add to Basket
* Price: £13.50 ( + 0.00 VAT in UK/EU) + postage

Hi Janice,
Cas is right. Go for this one first:
Llangiwg, St.Ciwg, Baptisms 1685-1892, Burials 1685-1881, Marriages 1677-1837
Pontardawe, St.Peter, Baptisms 1862-1915
It's the cheapest and the more obvious, as Morriston I think now, is too far West.
I thought I would let you know that I spent on one family about £300. I got there in the end, down to 1809. The name I was looking for was John Thomas from Wales!!!!!!!!!
"nil desperandum"
Brian
-
Thanks Borneo. Will do.
That's a lot of money, isn't it? The problem with living in Australia is the exchange rate!
I'll be living in the UK next month, so things should be better for me then.
Take care,
Janice
P.S. Have just ordered it and it should be waiting for me when I arrive in Scotland. Could be exciting.
-
Keep in touch
Brian
-
Good luck Janice, hope it holds many keys for you, also wishing you a safe, enjoyable and productive trip to the UK.
As Borneo mentioned let us know how you get on...
Best wishes
Cas :)
-
Greetings from Manchester,
I have received the books as advised and there is nothing at all that I can link to my relatives. :'(
Any suggestions as to which directions I follow now?
Janice ;)

I don't know if this will help, but I had a look at the census for 1841 and the family are enumerated in a hamlet called Blaenegel. Multimap doesn't seem to recognise the name, but if you look for Gwaun-cae-gurwen (aka GCG), a river Egel shows on the map to the east. On the Genuki page for Llangiwg, there's a link to a church and chapels database for Cwmgors and GCG, but the website isn't playing today. Perhaps if it decides to work sometime, it will give you a clue to where Hannah might be buried.
-
Greetings, Osprey,
This is where they were on the '41 census. They were wrongly down as Williams.
She is last seen on the '41 census at a residence called Ty-yn-y-wain.
The other details are
Ystradgunlais
Civil Parish - Llanguich Hundred - Llangafelach
William 35 Collier
Hannah 40
Jenkin 15 Collier
Rees 13
Mary 11
Catherine 7
David 4
Is this the same as you have listed.
Jamjar
-
yes, that's the entry I was looking at - H0107/1419/9 enumeration district 7 in Llanguicke which according to the enumerator's description is the hamlet of Blaenegel and the house is called Ty yn y wain.
-
I'm sorry to have to say this, but I think you have the wrong family for the 1841 Census ?
If on the Census they state their name as Williams, that is what their surname is/was ?
Enumerators do not make mistakes ! (I think)
Brian
-
Hi Borneo,
It's the correct family. All names are there and all the ages are correct.
You're the first person I've ever had say that enumerators don't make mistakes! ;) They most certainly did. :-\
Thanks Osprey. Could you give me the link to the website you have mentioned, please? I couldn't locate it.
Looks like I'm off to Wales in the school summer hols, yipee!
Thanks again for all help given.
Jamjar

Hi Jamjar
Please then accept my apologies !
Brian
-
I most certainly do, sir.

Thank you.
Had a look, but couldn't find anything connecting.

Off to Wales on Monday, for the first time and will be staying in Neath. Hopefully, will find some of the place you kind folk have listed for me.
-
I hope you enjoy yourself, and
Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Brian.
Trip is postponed until Wednesday due to the weather. Murphy's law at play here.

Just started on my Jenkins family tree & reached William & Hannah. My grandfather was Neil Jenkin Jenkins born in Grasmere 1901. Can you fill me in on who came to Australia & when. Many thanks. Janine
-
Yes, Janine I can provide all you need on our Jenkins families.
I was only typing up information on Neil’s line, last week.
You need to make 2 more posts and then we can exchange information on our families via the RC personal message system.
Jamjar

Fantastic. Thanks Jamjar.

Have you been to Warrnambool Cemetery, Janine. Our ancestors and relatives are taking up a very large portion of land in the cemetery.
I won’t be to the computer until, tomorrow.

It's odd that you were able to send and receive PMs without making 3 posts.
Someone else was able to do it recently, also. The rule must have been changed without notification to all members.
