I did miss it..sry bout that. I was reading in a hurry...was too excited.

On James?  in census records? was that the earliest record of him? and when you put this
"MORAN James Charles Christopher 23 Single Father James "  is single father referring to James Charles Christopher Moran or is that is father? sorry if I sound confusing.

Ty Kris,
I wasnt sure how things were actually documented in Australia. And I appreciate any info on the family lines, siblings and so forth.

Question.  Do you have access to obituaries with in the past 20 years? or is that asking to much?

There is a James Charles Christopher Moran listed as buried at Centennial Park. (Father or Son ?) It does not list the date and says he was of Broken Hill which is just over the border into NSW. I will look for a death for him when I am at the library. As I said we have just had a release of deaths up to 1972. If you are looking for later than that you will have to hope to find the burials. Have a look about the SA Links....

Here is the one for Centennial Park Cemetery

http://www.centennialpark.org/rel_search.asp

The SAGHS is well worth a look at what they have. I can see Stanley and some of your others are listed. They can help with burials and newspaper Obits but there is a small charge.

http://www.saghs.org.au/graves.htm

Sorry I don't have time to keep hunting at the moment. I have to go out but have a look about and see who you can spot. I have seen a lot of yours listed in a quick look at these two sites.

Have Fun.........Kris  :D

Lots of other SA Links here

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,158128.0.html

This is just from a very quick look about. I am sure there will be much more to be found. I see Sue is on the Hunt. She may be able to find some more goodies for you.

Hi Sue.....Carry On. I really have to Rush, be back later  ;D

For James Moran, Father of James Christopher Charles Moran Sr. Is there anyway to find out more on him? his age? place/country of birth etc? a wife?. .... You said you dont have census? Was there another system in place to keep track of households?
Title: Re: Moran Family in SA
Post by: krisesjoint on Monday 27 November 06 02:46 GMT (UK)
At this stage we do not even know that James was ever in SA. All we know is that James Christopher Charles listed his father as James at the time of both marriages. There were James Moran's in SA but can't tell if they connect. There is one having children at the right time but as he has a son James Andrew in 1886 I doubt that is him. Another had a James in 1894 so another unlikely. No. 3 had a daughter in 1887 so possible if they arrived with young James. The other thing of course is perhaps your James Christopher Charles Moran came as an adult.

James Christopher Charles Moran died in 1941 therefore his death certificate will list his place of birth and his length of time in the Commonwealth. That should help you find his arrival, although for the period I suspect we will be looking at, I doubt it will be online. You should see if there is by chance an entry in the BISA also. Not everyone is listed of course. Although on par with IGI submitted entries, it can often head you in the right direction. I don't have it sorry......Kris  :D

MATTIN:  William arrived by 1857  occ: Labourer residing Meadows  rel:C/E

Also checked for Brennan and Eden without luck.

Desmond Moran was son of James Charles Christopher Moran, and half-brother to my father James Christopher Moran.  He spent some time in the Royal Australian Navy I think and lived for some time at Seaton Park, Sth Aust.  I recall he was active in the Bowls Club there according to my Dad.
My father was born in 1910 and his mother died in 1911.  His father remarried to Matilda Peterson who had one daughter, Muriel.  All subsequent siblings were half-brothers and sisters to my  Dad who died in 1982, aged 72 at Broken Hill, NSW.

Greetings from Ann Moran, eldest daughter of James Christopher Charles Moran first son of James Christopher.  He was widowed when my father was a baby and subsequent childRen were from his second marriage.   Some names I know are Sydney, Albert. Horace. Desmond. Colin. David (deceased aged 6). Bette. Iris.
Muriel was daughter of his second wife at time of their marriage.
I met Horace and Joan when I was a very small child.  They stayed with us for a short time. Desmond died late February 2015. I have sent
a letter to his family.  Does anyone know where in Cork my grandfather was born?
I'm excited to hear this news of Dad's family.  He spoke of and kept in touch from time to time but they were not part of our lives.  I am eldest of 4 girls. My first name was Hilda, named for Dad's mother but I changed it to Ann in 1981. My sisters Joan and Shirley are still living and my sister Fay died of cancer aged 49 in 1986. None of us are "spring chickens" but pretty good anyway.  Ann

Hi all, my name is Tereena Cocks and I am the middle child of Kay Leverington  (nee Moran). Mum's father was Albert Wilson Moran from Port Adelaide and lived most of his life in Strathalbyn, SA.
Unfortunately,  Mum is being treated for ovarian cancer, & needs to complete forms on any family history of cancer - especially breast, ovarian or testicular cancer. We wonder if anyone has been tested for the BRCA gene mutation?
Anyone who can help with any information on this would be greatly appreciated. If it is proven that Mum has the BRCA gene mutation, it could be of huge impact on any blood relative, as they will need to be tested for the gene mutation as well, & decide what, if any preventative treatments they will undertake.
Thanks.

Anybody who can help me with information on any Moran family members who have or had cancer - specifically breast/ovarian/testicular and if they have ever had testing for BRCA gene mutation. My Mum - second daughter of Albert Wilson Moran requires this information as she has ovarian cancer and will be tested for BRCA gene mutation which can run in families.

Thanks Anne & Julieanne - you have both helped greatly.
Gosh, Julieanne, it seems there is a high possibility of the BRCA gene being in the family. I hope the testing goes well for you and gives you the opportunity to take preventative measures if the test proves positive. It is a very big issue to face, but I guess the alternative is so confronting that we would do whatever it takes to survive.
Interestingly, I already have one genetic mutation which has given me a blood cancer which is relatively rare (Essential thrombocytosis  and Polycythaemia Rubra Vera ) - this causes me to produce too many red blood cells and platelets and causes me to suffer clots and bleeds. I take a chemotherapy tablet (hydroxyurea) - which helps control the numbers.
Wondering where you both live?
I am in Strathalbyn, south of Adelaide - where my grandfather - Albert Wilson Moran worked and lived for most of his life.
Thanks again for all your help.
It will assist greatly in completing the family cancer history paperwork to enable genetic testing to commence.
Cheers,
Tereena.

If you're still around here and want more information, I'm more than happy to provide it.

Otherwise, I have created our family tree on ancestry.com and you should be able to find it with the names you have now.
