Please could someone see if they can find Henry Hyde born c1801 in the 1841 census? As far as I know he was born in Rottingdean and married Jane Pope. They should have a son Joseph with them aged 14 years.
Many thanks :-*

Thanks Barbara
That is the correct family. I think I will now need to check the 1851 census to see where he was born.
Thanks again Thelma :)

Hi Thelma
This could possibly be your family in the 1851 census
HO107/ 1650/ Folio 74/ Page 5 - Thakeham, Pulborough, Sussex
Henry Hide, Head, marr, 52, Ag Baliffe, born Woolbeeding, Sussex
Jane Hide, Wife, Marr, 51, born Eastgate, Sussex
George Hide, Son, unm, 12, born Pulborough, Sussex
Jane Hide, Dau, unm, 9, born Pulborough, Sussex
Mary Cophy, Servant, unm, 19, House Servant, born Sussex

That particular family are in Pulborough and Henry was born in Woolbeeding. Does that sound right? Kids don't quite match either. There is a Henry Ide born Brighton at about the right time with wife Jane but a son Frederick age 22 - not a match I fear.

Thanks. The place names mean nothing to me as I hardly know Sussex. There are too many Hydes/Hides. They are going to take some untangling. Talk about an appropriate surname! ;D
Thanks for looking though.Thelma

Yes, I agree with you, that is why I said it was just a possibility.
It is the only Henry that comes up on the 1851 census married to a Jane.
The children mentioned in the 1841 census - Joseph is married in 1851, Henry now aged 15 is an Apprentice in Brighton, the girls Elizabeth & Jane i cannot spot in the 1851, quite possibly they have married.
But as I said, its only a possibility - perhaps Kesannah can help sort this one out

Ta Chris, one aims to please............and it was nice to see another generation listed there too. It was actually indexed under Ely but someone had already made an amendment from that to Henry so I wasn't that clever........also nice to be called a lady
;D ;D

Well spotted. It would be interesting to know who made the amendment as they must be doing that family. Not sure how you find that out.
Andrea

You just click on the amended name, and up comes the reason for the alteration and the submitter's user name, then you can contact them by clicking on that (I think) - I think the reason given was purchase of a marriage cert, so worth pursuing.

Thanks to you all finding that family. Why couldn't it be Henry's parents living with them? Ah well that would have been too simple!
Thanks again. Still searching for his parents!
Thelma

Eeeeeeh, I don't know, some people want it all in one go, now as you say, that would be too easy, just be happy you got her parents, and shout if you need help with his ;)

Hi
I think this could be a distinct possibility
HENRY HYDE
Christening: 11 FEB 1798 Rottingdean, Sussex, England
Parents:
Father: JOSEPH HYDE
Mother: PHILLIS
Sussex Marriage :
Location: Brighton, East Sussex, Date: 3 Jul 1788:
Groom: Joseph HYDE of Ovingdean
Bride: Phyllis PAINE, of this parish
Married by the calling of Banns.
Hope that helps

Thanks Chris
That looks the strongest possibility at present. :-* I'll contact the person who was asking about Henry and see if we can work out if his father is linked to my Hides/Hydes.
Have a great christmas from Thelma ;D

Thelma, I only got back from holiday very late last night so have not had a lot of chance to study the Hides/Hydes but I can tell you that Joseph Hide who married Phyllis Paine is definitely connected to your gggrandmother.
I have the names of your gggrandmothers parents and siblings . I also have other family members and their offspring.
Like you I cannot yet connect the Henry who married Jane Pope to my family (and yours) at the moment.
If you have any other information I would be pleased to hear of it. I can help you to get back to 1714 if you wish. Kesannah

Thelma. I have have had a look at the Hyde family and thought this may be of help.
HENRY HIDE who married SARAH PAYNE is not the son of Joseph and Phyllis.
HENRY HYDE BAPTISED IN 1798 is the Cousin of RICHARD born 1793
RICHARD HYDE is the nephew of Joseph born 1764 .Richards father James Hyde is Josephs brother.
I still have not been able to connect HENRY HIDE and JANE POPE to the family though I am pretty sure there is a connection somehow.
I hope that I haven't confused you with this explanation. Kesannah
