Title: William Jessamine.
Post by: wilcoxon on Friday 22 December 06 14:43 GMT (UK)
I have a William Jessamine, a breeches maker who died in Wrexham . NorthWales.
He was the son of William who died in 1734 according to the MI s.
I cannot find any more families with this name, which changed to Jessaman over the years, either in Wales or England.
They were dissenters as they are buried in the Dissenters Burial Ground in Wrexham.
It has been suggestested that the name is quite common in Scotland.
Any information will be very helpful.
Thanks.

Hi wilcoxon,

Well, just to give you an indication, there are 9 people with the surname Jessamine in the 1841 Scotland census - this increases to 115 if you do a soundex search, which pulls up names like Jesseman, Jasmine, Jesiman, and Jessiman.

On the 1851, 187 people come up on the Soundex search, most of them with birthplaces in Aberdeenshire.

Don't know if this is helpful  :-\  I wasn't sure if you were asking for info on a specific person...

Thank MJP,
No I wasn`t looking for anyone in particular, with the little information and the date I have it would be a great task.
It was just an enquiry to try to find where William senior may have come from. He wasn`t baptised at Wrexham St Giles parish church, but given the fact that they were non- conformist is not surprising.
It seems that with the amount of Jessamine and variations , that he may have come from Scotland. But anymore than that,  I shan`t ever expect to find. I have no information on Scottish Jessamine`s at all, it was just the line that came to Wales, and the name that has now died out that I was interested in.
Thank you. :) And all others who have replied.  :)
