My ggg Grandfather Benjamin Smith born 1791 in Watten (son of Alexander Smith and Rachel Sutherland) is included in the 1821 Census Burray Orkney Islands at the home of Walter Rosie and his wife Margaret (nee Ballantyne) along with a Margaret Park and a Betty Sutherland and an Alexander Smith aged 1 year. I have tried the Orkney sites to no avail to try to find a birth for Alexander Smith,I think he may be the son of Benjamin Smith whose father was Alexander!.(Scottish naming patterns?) Benjamin married a Margaret Allan and had 7 children in Burray- Sth Ronaldsay Orkney. I am hoping that the elusive Alexander Smith may have been born in Caithness, and maybe Benjamin Smith is related to the Rosies?! I am at the proverbial brick wall as I can NOT find a birth fro Benjamin's mother Rachel Sutherland or any information about Benjamin's parents - John Smith and Kathrin McKay so here's hoping the Caithness site can reveal something ::)
