Hi dee
Thanks for those deaths.
I was presuming William McEwan died because she (Margaret) remarried. Perhaps they divorced. !! Are divorce records available - this is a new area for me.
Cheers, Chris
-
Can't help you about divorce records, Chris. However, I shall check out a few other things I have later in the day - really should be getting off this computer for a while now.
Will let you know if I find anything more.......dee

Sue & dee
Thank you - maybe there was a divorce with that next of kin showing. Or perhaps its good ol' Mum................
I'll check out his service record in any case.
Cheers, Chris

The war record would be that of the son William Archibald McEwan. I expect that Agnes is his wife, but if he married after 1937 it won't be in the Index.
I'll search further for the father William Archibald McEwan .....dee

And there is this website Chris......

Chris, I have searched some more for William Archibald McEwan senior's death - have tried all kinds of spellings and wildcards - but could not locate him.
I took a look at Victorian and NSW records too - in case he went to either of those states for whatever reason.
I did find Margaret's second marrige record if you want that. ........dee

Yes dee I would like the second marriage details. Thanks for trying to locate WA McEwan senior. Much appreciated.
Cheers, Chris

hello there Dee
does these deaths actual list the fathers name?
or does it list relative?
regards jenn
-
Will get the marriage details for you tomorrow, Chris.
Jenn, there is an initial code by the relative - F = father; H= Husband; B = Brother etc.
I have taken the information and put it into my own words ......dee
-
hello there Dee
so the father was still alive in 1925
after the mother has remarried ?
regards jenn
-
I guess that is a possibility, Jenn - although her marriage entry did show that she was a widow. More likely his death record has not made the index - mistakes do happen in Indexes as we all know. There is also the possibility that his death in another state I suppose........dee
-
Sorry Jenn - were you meaning because William Archibald senior was given as the father on the marriage certificate of the daughter in 1925 he was still alive? I have marriage certificates where the father is deceased but no mention is made of that fact - the certificate lists him as the father.
Hope I am making sense - think it is time I stopped - too tired......dee
-
hello there Dee
no on the death details for william henry in 1925 you have the father as william archibald thats why I asked did they list father on these indexs or was it relative for the death if so then his father was still alive
regards jenn
-
I'll get there in the end, Jenn - it actually has the relative entered as William Archibald -and yes, he could still be alive.
But - because it says "Relative" I have found that sometimes the person actually giving the information has said the father's name for relative, even if the father is dead.
In other words, William Archibald senior - could be alive or dead by 1925. Either way his death is not listed in SA indexes up to 1972. It would be quite surprising if he was still alive by then.

Here's Margaret's second marriage. Interesting to note that she was recorded as a widow and married in Holy Trinity Church. Wouldn't that be unlikely at that time if she was divorced? ......dee
