I am having trouble finding a record of birth for John S. (possibly middle name Steer??) WILLS born Sherborne, c. 1835.
I found an entry for him ( my gg grandfather) in the 1881 Census residing in Lambeth, Surrey. Occupation Accountant.
I have no other information to go on at this time.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Here he is in 1851:

Family Search has 2 John Wills for that time.
One is born 1834 - parents Robert and Ann - this has been supplied by a church member but this one is in 1841 census.
The other is a baptism at Melbury-Bubb (have looked it up- it is 6 miles from Sherborne it says) parents Thomas and Mary Ann. Have found a Thomas and Mary Ann with children but not John!
Will look again

sorry to be going back and forth
1881- as you say Jno S Wills born Sherbourne
1891 John Steer Wills born Sherbourne
1871 John S Wills - place of birth 'not known' (presumably to enumerator and not John S)
1861 can't find him (at first) BUT fingers crossed!!
1861 RG9; Piece: 148; Folio: 14; Page: 22
transcribed as Wells - but does look like Wills - handwriting a bit difficult
33 Noel Street Islington East
Henry P Wills head 55 yrs Cl to Meat Salesman b Isle of Wight
Jane W 57 yrs b Isle of Wight
John S 26 yrs accountant b Dorset Sherbourne
George L 18 yrs warehouseman B Wiltshire Salisbury
Mary Jennings (?) servant 25 yrs house servant b Middlesex St Lukes
Mary A Raubert (?) lodger 67 yrs teacher of Music, French etc b Middlesex
so I'd say that's him!

George son 8 yrs ditto
Jane wife 46 yrs ditto
Julia daur 21 yrs b Southampton

Thank you!
This is the first bit of possibles for this family. John S. has been my brickwall, and I neglected him, researching more accessible ancestors.
I appreciate your trolling. I know it isn't easy to piece together information that is so very sketchy.

Hi Lindsay,
Have you had a look at www.dorset-opc.com? Seems to be a lot of info for Sherbourne.

Hi Lindsay
I know you were looking many years ago for references to John Steer Wills (accountant). I believe he was my great, great, great, Grandfather. I have in my possession a birth certificate for his Son, John Herbert Wills. John Herbert Wills was born in 1867 in Kennington, London. Is this the person you were looking for?
Thanks

Sandra.
Yes. My great grandfather was Charles David Wills. I’ll have to check back on his father’s name.... My grandmother, his daughter, was Nellie Maud Wills. He had married Helen Lucy Leggett, descended from Talbots and Leggetts of Rotherhithe, Surrey.
I haven’t done much research for several years on the Wills family.... But it seems we are cousins!

John Steer Wills is my gg grandfather. David Charles Wills, his son, is my great grandfather. David Charles who was a cheesemonger died of pneumonia at the age of 39, in Camberwell, I think it was... I’ll have to check, but I think that was in 1907.

Hi Lynz
Well that would be great if we are! I’ve obviously got a lot of investigating to do but you’ve given me names to go on which is good. You’ve clearly spent a lot of time on this over the years. It is fascinating but time consuming to say the least!
Anyway thanks for that and I guess over to me to do some work now!

I went on the LDS site, familysearch. There is a gedcom. Your ggg is two years older than my gg. They are brothers.
I was in contact several years back with descendants of their mother, Jane Way Woodford. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/L6HK-JHJ
I hope you can copy and past that link to open. If not, please pm me your email and I will send a screenshot. Lynz
