Dear Everyone at Roots Chat :D
John Gosbee was my Husband's G G Grandfather. He married Rebecca Willis on May 4 1854. He was born in Stone in Oxney . I am trying to find his parents. On the Marriage Certificate his father is William Gosbee. As there are one or two Williams I am not sure who is the right one. I do know he died in 1908 at the age of 84. So if anyone can find his birth I would be very grateful.
Hoping to hear from you soon.

What were the occupations of John+father William?
Jackie.

Hi Jackie.
Thankyou for replying to my problem :)
All it says on the certificate is that he was a laborer. There is a James Gosbee as a witness. :)

See also http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,202694.0.html for anybody trying to help.
I think you need the parish registers to try and find the baptism of John GOSBEE to establish what it says there ........................ just in case he is the John listed on the 1841 census already found on the other thread.

I don't know whether you've seen the Kent Archaeological Society website. The are a couple of GOSBEE entries for the parish of Stone in Oxney
http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Libr/MIs/MIsStoneinOxney/01.htm
PS There are also a couple in Lydd and Wittersham churchyards.

Hello There
You have made my day :) Do you know once I went to that church yard to find those graves and never found them as most of the stones are old and you cannot read them.
A very big thank you

The KAS has a great website.
There a couple of mentions of GOSBEE field and land in Stone in Oxney which I presume must have some connection with the family you are researching although there are no GOSBEES listed as living there at the time.
http://www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/Research/Maps/STX/02.htm
There was also a GOSBEE'S farm in Stone cum Ebony.

Hi ya
So the Gosbee family were farmers then. We knew a lot of them were Shepherd's and Lookers working on Romney marsh. My husband's father worked on the land drainage on the marsh back in the sixties.
Many thanks for all you have done. :D

naafi girl are you still researching the Gosbee family from Stone in Oxney, as I have been researching them for quite some time now and we may be able to assist each other. John Jabez Gosbee and Recbecca are buried in the churchyard at Stone-in-Oxney. We have visited many of the local churches and have managed to find out a fair bit in the process. My wife is a desendant of John Jabez Gosbee, being her great great grandfather.

Not sure if you are still doing the Gosbee family tree but have only just found this post after all these years.
I am always looking for their graves and did go to Kent to look for their graves but never found then because most of them were not readable.
My husband is related to them and used to live in Kent.
