Could this be them? Nothing else similar comes up! All spellings direct from Familysearch 1881 census transcriptions

Phillip Maiorer-mar-head-28-Railway surfaceman- english subject-Prussia
Elizabeth Maiorer-wife-20-New luce
Phillip Maiorer-son-1-Colmonell, Ayr
Peter G. Maiorer-son-I month-New Luce

Living at Markdow railway cottage (Miltonise cottage), New Luce, Wigtown
GRO ref Volume 893 dist 1 page 1

Hope that's them & good luck (looks like you may well need it with the wide variety of spellings that might crop up!!!)

The Familysearch website has the 1881 census for England and Wales (listed as British Isles). It does not include Scotland (and I don't think Ireland is included either).

I guess Woodydog found this family group in the LDS CD set of the 1881 census (also named British Isles) which consists of England, Wales and Scotland (also not Ireland).
