This is (I believe) my gg grandfather Thomas Fennessy. The photo is in a mourning brooch with a lock of brown hair. The photographer was Hunter in Cork.
Can anyone give me an idea of the date?
Thanks in advance, Rian.

Hi Rian
Hunter islisted at 102 St Patrick Street in an 1867 Cork Directory:

Gives something to work on.

Thank you Gadget — that's a useful bit of info (and site!)
I see there is a Mrs Hunter, photographer in 1886 but at #28. No-one of that name in the years 1875/6.
As far as I know Thomas was alive in 1867, and I expected him to be older than he was then when he died. Presumably before 1875. Of course it may have been an photo taken some years earlier that was used in the brooch. I do not have birth or death dates for this man. I know that he maried in 1847, and his children were born between 1849 and 1858. He was probably a railway superintendant in Cork in 1867. His wife was in Liverpool with her daughter (? helping with a new baby), during the 1881 census and is written as married, not widowed.
Cheers, Rian.

I hope you don't mind Rian but I had a little play with your gg grandfather :-\

Didn't I already work on this one under "Improve this old glass plate" or am I imagining things :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
Please try not speed up the "AD process" for us Senior citizens :( :(

Thank you Di, he looks really good.
Yes Mudge I did another post for photo cleanups and a separate one for dating as I didn't think people would open every post, just ones they had an interest in.
Now I know that there are more people who want to do cleanups than those who date old pics!
Thanks to everyone for everything! ;D
