Hello All :)
Help please. I have a gt grandfather Richard Pugh 1853 - 1909 lived and died in Pontesbury. In 1881 he was a rock blaster, in 1891 a stone quarry manager & in 1901 a stone quarry proprietor.
My question is how do I find out what quarry he owned, where could I get copies of deeds or maps of the quarry. I think it would be on or near Pontesbury Hill, Nills maybe???
Unfortunately not still in the family mores the pity :'(
Any information would be greatfully received.
Mike.

Did he leave a will ?
Otherwise a google search might yield clues which you could follow up in the County Archives ?

Thanks Newfy
Not sure if he left a will.
But will keep looking.

Hi Mike,
I was trying to track down my brothers house in Whixall and emailed/phoned the Shrewsbury Archives.
They were very helpful and got out a list of all the bits that might help - and when I went down to see them they had indeed got a map showing his actual cottage from over 200 years ago!
So I am sure if the can find a canal cottage they would be able to find a quarry!
Cheers
Keith

I will give them a try next time I'm in town.

Did you ever find any more about your Grandfather? I have to write a few words on Nills Hill Quarry(ies) and would be very interest if you tracked him down to there.
