Title: CRAZE Information if anyone wants it
Post by: cornishpasty on Saturday 24 February 07 09:54 GMT (UK)
Hi to all who are interested in the CRAZE surname.

A recently found rellie has linked one of her CRAZE rellies to my URENs and she has sent me quite a bit of information regarding the CRAZE family starting with Thomas CRAZE b. 1723 in Redruth, Cornwall - far too much for me to re-type on the Board. ::)

So if anyone is interested please let me know and I will send you a copy via email.  Obviously, leave your email address in my P.M. and I will send the details through ASAP.

You may or may not already have this information - I don't know - but thought it would be a good idea to let you all know, just in case it will help you.

Regards
CP ;D

A point I forgot to mention is this:

CRAZE married into the JEFFREY family and they eventually established themselves in Penetanguishane, Ontario, Canada.  There is a book written about this family called "This Was Yesterday" by John Bayfield and Carol Genow, published in 1982.

For anyone who is interested ....................... you never know !!! ;)

Back again ;D - Forgive me for my slackness  :-[ but I've been swimming all day with my 3 grandsons and they've worn me out. ;)  I should have added this information in the beginning:

These people listed above are from various parts of Cornwall, Scotland, Michigan USA, Cape Colony (South Africa) - her surname is not shown unfortunately but every bit helps , London and Australia.

You even have some overlaps with me

LOL Rod - NO,  I'm only related through the one UREN marriage.  It's not a name that I am researching.

I had noticed a few people searching for CRAZE information both on this site and others, and I thought it would be a good idea to share the information given to me, with others who are researching this name.

So I take it you don't need any information then??

Yes it certainly is.  Personally, I think that everyone who is researching any name, should always try to share their information with others.  I sometimes read messages on other sites where people are looking for ancestors and it's such a shame that they DON'T think to look at other sites sometimes - they seem to have tunnel vision - there is just SO much information out there but ...... we can all help each other by posting as much as we can.

G'day Karen,

I am soooooooo pleased that the information helped you.  It makes me very happy. ;D

Hugs,

P.S.  MESSAGE TO ANYONE WANTING INFORMATION:

I have RSI ::) (Repetitive Strain Injury) :'( and I blame my ancestors LOL.  Too much typing for too many hours.  So, I won't be able to send emails or post anything for a little while.  I have to behave myself and stay off the computer.  Hard yakka, that, because it's driving me insane - so much to do.  I am only able to read but not type.

Thought I would leave this message in case anyone else needs information, just leave a message and I will always get back to you as soon as my arms and hands are better. :D ;)

Miss you all in the Chatroom - hope you're all behaving NOT !!!  LOL ;)

Hi Cornish

So sorry to hear about the RSI, how awful not to be able to use the computer!  Hope it starts to get better soon.

My mum is a Craze, and my cousin has been researching that branch of the tree.  Any additional information would be great.   Do not attempt to reply, I am just leaving this message in the queue for when you get better again  :)

I also notice you have a "Williams" in your list of names, from Cornwall and South Africa areas.  Just wondering if you have an Ellen Williams, sister of Thomas John Williams of St Erth, Cornwall.  In his obituary she was listed as living in South Africa.  Just thought I'd ask on the offchance.  Again, do not reply until you are better, it is not urgent.  Oh dear, I sound very bossy.

All my best wishes for a speedy recovery, from rainy Cornwall.

Hello Cornish Maid,

Great to hear from you and thanks for the good get well wishes.  I have my arms propped up on cushions on the arms of my chair LOL.

If you want to leave your email address in PM I will gladly send you the Craze information.  As for the Willaims information I am still waiting to hear from my Aunty in South Africa who has heaps of information but she is 86 yrs old and is NOT on the internet.  I am hoping to get that information one of these days LOL and when I do I will make it available for everyone.  Wish she would hurry up because it is quite frustrating !!!

Anyway, look forward to hearing from you with an email address.

G'day Bex,

I do hope that I sent you that CRAZE information ::) - I almost had an "apoplexy" ;D thinking that I had'n't sent it to you.  I'm sure you replied anyway but I just can't find anything  in my emails saying that I sent it to you.  If I haven't, please forgive me and I will send it tonight.

About the Ellen WILLIAMS you asked me about, I only have an Ella Mary Williams (and that was a name given to me over the phone by my Aunty in South Africa so I may have heard wrong as in Ellen or Ella).  Ella WILLIAMS married an Edmund NICHOLAS.  Anyway I don't have any other details about her except that she is my gr-grandmother .  Mother of my grandmother who was Martha Maud NICHOLAS who was also born in Cornwall.

Only problem with phoning South Africa from Australia is that I can't speak longer than 20 minutes (then it gets expensive) LOL and it's so frustrating because by the time everyone says their hellos there's no time left to talk genealogy. Hahahaha.  Ohhhhh I live in hope that one day I will get all that information from her.

My arms are much better too and thanks for your nice messages.

Hugs
CP

Hiyah CP,

So glad you're on the mend.  You did indeed send me the Craze information, thank you very very much for that.  I have passed it on to my cousin who's concentrating on that side of the family.  I'll let you know if she comes up with any connections with it.  :)

I am so sorry if I didn't reply to your email, I'm usually really good at replying.  I must have been having a senior moment (they are getting more frequent   :-[ )
lol.  Huge huge apologies if I didn't.

Now, on to the Williams side, I will have to investigate further.  My dad is still in touch with a couple of the Williams family, I'll set him on the trail and see if any of them know anything about Ellen.  Will get back to you as soon as I find something.  Oh, don't you just love a mystery.   ;D

Hugs back
Bex  :)

Hi Bex,

Yes, I'm on the mend thanks.  I'm sure you did reply but I think it's ME  ::)having the senior moment hahahahaha.  I had emailed it to a number of different people but was concerned that I hadn't emailed it to you.  LOL.

Yes, I do love mysteries but I also like them to come to an end ROFL. ;D

I phoned my Aunty last night (their day time) and she had just come home from hospital so couldn't talk - she was zonked out from the anaesthetic.  Poor darling.  Anyway, I said I would call her in about a week.  Hope she can come up with something regarding Ellen Williams or any other names that may help you.

Hugs

Hello all!  I am researching my maternal ancestry and having a rough time of it so far!  The furthest back I can get is my great, great grandmother Sara J. Humphrey (nee Crase).  I have no records of her last name spelling so far, it's by verbal family lore.  Here is what I do know:
Born 1847, died 1931
Married to James Humphrey
Lived in Corning, NY from *at least* 1881 to her death.
9 children, dont' have the names here with me, but I can post them later.

I suspect she's a transplant from elsewhere, since there is only one Crase buried in Corning NY (in the same cemetary, with is interesting)  CRASE, Francis C   , Born  1891 , Died  1892 .

Does this ring a bell for anyone?  Could I have a look at any Crase genelogies to see if there's a connection?

Thank you all!

Hi Bex

I finally received the information from my Aunty in South Africa. ;D

Your asked me about an Ellen WILLIAMS, who was a sister of Thomas James WILLIAMS.

It appears that my Ella Mary WILLIAMS' father was Thomas James WILLIAMS so he could be your Ellen's brother.  Unfortunately, she did not give me any other details about Thomas J. Williams  (baptised 25/12/1852 but born 1848), so I am starting the search myself.  You also mentioned "South Africa" - well these WILLIAMS ancestors did emigrate to South Africa.  The plot thickens ;D

Please let me know (if you know) when your Thomas James WILLIAMS was born.  I will let you know if I find he had a sister Ellen because I am now trying to track down HIS parents and siblings etc.

Hugs

Title: Unrelated Craze? Driving me Crazy!
Post by: ladyrua on Thursday 13 September 07 13:16 BST (UK)
Hello all - my name is Kelly and I've taken on the daunting task of tracing my maternal genealogy.  Never thought I'd get stuck so early on though - my great, great grandmother was Sarah J Craze, born 1847, and married a James Humphrey (born 1846) in 1867 in Bridgewater, Somerset County.  That's the earliest record I have of her, and I'm not even 100% sure that that is her!!  They had two children in England, Anna (1868) and Albert (1871) before moving to America between 1871-1872 and having Rose (1872), Harry (1874), William (1877), Alice (~1881), and Myrtle (1883).

I have fairly good records of them once they're over in America, but their early life is a blank!  Family lore says that Sara and James were from opposite sides of the country (Sara in Corwall, James in Dover) and were forbidden by their families to get married (something about Sara came from a wealthy family, while James' were sailors).

Can anyone help?  I don't have an ancestry.com membership (I'll save *that* rant for another time!), and I feel like I've googled myself silly over this.  Does anyone see a Sara J Craze born in 1847????

Thanks so much!

ladyrua,

I have looked for your Humphrey family in the free indexes and have found a possible for James Humphrey.

Free BMD: James Austin Humphrey, born Dec Quarter, 1844,  Dover  Vol 5 page 123
Anna Humphrey, born Dec Quarter, 1867,  Yeovil   Vol 5c page 457

Did you notice that the 1880 census states that Albert was born in the US?

Hi

I would be intrested in hearing how it all connects to the Harper and Northey names in your list.  My ancestor was Stephen Harper married Christina Eade in St Agnes Cornwall in 1836.  Their daughter Mary married Stephen Northey around 1860.  Other children of Stephen and Christina included Lavinia and Edwin.  The family moved from Cornwall to Camarthen then eventually settled in Flintshire, North Wales.  Any connection or just a co-incidence of surnames?

Have traced my ancesters back to James Craze born 1807ish married to Maria ?.  They had a daughter Mary  in 16/5/1843 who married my Great Grandfather James Poad Walker. Their area was Tavistock in Cornwall.  James Craze was a Cordwainer.  I don't believe there were any coal mines in Cornwall as suggested by one of your other contacts.

Hi Philip and welcome to Rootschat.com.

You need to make at least 3 "posts" before you can send anyone a Private Message and it would also help if you could state what your particular query is relating to the CRAZE information.  When you are ready to send me a PM (Personal Message), click on my name 'Cornishpasty" on the left side of the screen, then click on 'Send this person a personal message'.  Don't forget to include your email address so that I can forward you the information you want.
Regards
CP.

Hi
We have just found your information on the Craze family and would be interested in finding out more. We do also have some other names in common - Cayzer, Jenkins, Hodge, Martyn, to name but a few. We would be interested in finding out if they are the same that are in our family tree.
We are willing to share information.

Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you, Christmas and all that!

Our Crazes are Abraham Craze (b.1699) who married Elizabeth (b.1703) sometime around 1720's. Their daughter , Eliza (b. 1725) married John Wills in Illogan Cornwall in 1748.

It would be interesting to know if these fit anywhere in your tree as we have been unable to find anything further so far.

Hi Cornish,
I'm descendent from the family names Whear & Roberts - I understand from the Ludgvan / Penzance area; and who emigrated to Australia around 1865.
I see these names on your 'list' and wonder if there might be any information with regard to these families, of which I would be most grateful.

Interested in the craze info and how it equates to the Chubb family - An earlier post had a John Nicholls Beckerlegge which is included in the family I am researching - this also links with the Chubb family

Sarah

I would PM but this is my first post so 2 more posts to go before I can get back to you

Hi,
I am researching the Ivey family history and have a Craze marrying into the family. Anne Nanny Craze married Peter James and had a daughter Jessie James. She married Wearne Ivey who was my Great, Great, Great Grandfather. Do you have any information around Anne Nanny Craze and her relations?

Kirsty

Hi izcatt!

Great to hear from you, I believe I know who you are, even though I have never met you, not that I recall.  Our mothers are first cousins, I've some lovely photo's here (from my Nana) of her, your grandad and their two other sisters taken in the late 1930's early 1940's from where they were born, I know you know where that is.  I've been doing quite a bit of work on the Craze's as late, and I am in contact with some very distant cousins.  As you are probably aware your grandad's sister will be 91 next month, my grandmother.  Margaret Penberthy Craze never did marry, and g grandfather Robert's birth certificate (if you do not have it) does not mention a father, but is interesting none the less.  I'll send you a pm with my email address so we can discuss further and share info!

Jo

Greetings,

You  mentioned UREN.  My grandmother was born Elizabeth Mary Robina Uren on Union St. in Cambourne on August 7 1896.  Her mother was Elizabeth Ellen Penpraze Uren and her father was James Uren.  Elizabeth (Penpraze) and James Uren had 7 children. Norman, Stanley, Elizabeth, Raymond, Gordon, Stuart, and Ruth.

Any connections there?

I am new to RootsChat, but I'm wondering whether this information about the Crazes is still available, even though these posts are two years old. I am trying to identify the ancestors of my 2xggrandfather, Thomas Craze. He died in 1879 in Illogan, Cornwall. and his death certificate says he was aged 54 (i.e. born about 1824-1825). He married Mary Peters in 1845 in Illogan Parish Church, and his marriage certificate shows his father as William. Any help would be appreciated.
