In the 1881 census my grandfather was 6, his brother was 5. The family lived in Prussia Street, which I think was the New Cross area or Ancoats. I wondered if anyone might know where they went to school? By the 1891 census they were both glassmakers.
My mother always told me how well educated my grandfather was. Apparently he was very well read and could play various musical instruments.
I would love to look at a log book or similar.

Prussia Street was renamed Kemp Street and is now known as Wadeford Close.

I found Manchester school records from those years without knowing the
School by searching on Genes Reunited site the childs name and age
It can be done on ancestry too but i find that harder to use ..you have to be lucky to find schools which preseved their records ...good luck .

There are school records on Find my Past - they are possibly only details of enrolment though. I recall looking at some with brigidmac a while ago.

Your grandfather might also have gone to night school to educate himself.
