Hello, I am looking for any information about a John Lillico b. 1847 in Selkirk, or information from 1851 Census which would have siblings and parents names.
Thank you
Titch

Hi,
I have the transcriptions of the 1851 census but the only John Lillico on there is 13 not 3. His parents were John Lillico and Ann Lillico, if you want the siblings let me know and i'll put them on here for you.

Hi Dawn
I'm not sure if it is the right John Lillico. I am looking for information on a John Lillico who married janet Turner April 10, 1874 in Peebles. He is my great-grandfather. I have the information from the 1881 census that has the siblings of my grandfather Alexander Lillico.

Hi Titch Tutt
If you have a look at John's 1874's marriage cert. on Scotlands People, it will give you the name of his parents. Like Dawn, the only John I could see in 1851 also was the older John. Given it is not a particular common name, he should be easy (famous last words ::)) to find.
The John and Ann Lillico show with all their children born in Selkirk.
Regards.

Do you have John and Ann Lillicos childrens names? I have also found a John Lillico, he was 15 at the time, in the 1851 census with his brother Thomas (32) and sister Helen(40)

On going through the 1851-71 Censuses, this seems to be the only reference to a John b. Selkirk. The ages seem a bit out as you can see, certainly entries to check against the original image on SP. In particular, the 1871 is suspect in terms of ages and relationships:
1851:
John Lillico 39, stone dyker
Ann Lillico 38
Andrew Lillico 16
John Lillico 13
Helen Lillico 11
Agness Lillico 9
William Lillico 7
Robert Lillico 4
Walter Lillico 2
Thomas Lillico 3 Mo
Address: Sweeps Neal Old Edinr Road, Selkirk
1861:
Thomas Lillico 32, head, labourer, b. Selkirk
Helen Lillico 40, sister, b. Selkirk
John Lillico 15, brother, b. Selkirk
1871:
Helen Lillico 64, head, housekeeper, b. Selkirk
John Lillico 24, son, Stone Dyker, b. Selkirk
Regards.

I find that doing this can be frustrating trying to match family lineage. I do have a picture of John Lillico who was my great-grandfather. Where would I go for a copy of marriage certificate?

On-line access to BMDs and Census images are available at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. If you haven't used it before, have a look at this link here on RootsChat: www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,24468.0.html.
What was John's occupation in the 1881 Census?
-
John's occupation was a Drystone dyker at Bonnington, Peebles

So, the same as the John Snr. we have in Selkirk with wife Ann...looking good. Also John and Janet's first born looks to have been called John:
JOHN LILLICO Birth: 21 MAY 1874 Peebles, Peebles, Scotland
Hopefully, the MC will confirm John's parents for you (let me know - I get curious ::)).
Regards.

Yes, John was their eldest and he emigrated to South Africa. I have had contact with his grand-daughter's daughter in-law in South Africa, as well have lost contact with other cousin who is the grandson of Robert Lillico. I will send away for mc, hopefully it get me that much further ahead.

On Scotland People site, you don't have to send away for certs., you can view them on line and then back them up on your computer to save/ print off etc. You have to buy units in blocks of 30 for £6GB. It will cost you £0.20 to carry out a search, then £1 to view results, so for £1.20 you can access the cert. on line..don't think you can get this cheaper anywhere else! The balance of units I'm sure you could use up with other searches (for example, John and Janet's parents' death certs. to get you back another generation etc).
