Title: Snowball's Store, Gateshead
Post by: ssnowball on Thursday 29 March 07 20:39 BST (UK)
I'm attempting to gather information on my great-great grandfather's brother's once-famous Snowball's Store in Gateshead High Street. William Snowball (b. 1824 at Harlow Hill, near Ovingham) moved to the new premises of his drapery store in 1866. Snowball's Store had a ground floor space of nearly one acre. The shop frontage eventually moved to make way for the access road to the Newcastle Bridge and closed sometime during the last war. Any information relating to the shop and it's owners (and especially photos) very welcome.

Sarah
Many thanks for the info. I've gleaned much of this already and in fact contributed to the article in the recent Newcastle Journal, including the photographs! It's nice of you to go to the effort, nonetheless.
