Post by: allanroy on Tuesday 30 November 04 17:17 GMT (UK)
Hi

I am trying to trace the following family
Isaac DEBNAM was born in 1772/1778 in Wiltshire, England. He died on 8 Apr 1855 in Grahamstown, South Africa. He married Mary GEORGE on 26 May 1799 in St Mary Magdalene Church, Great Elm, Somerset, England .

Immigrated to South Africa in 1820 on the storeship “Weymouth”

Mary GEORGE was born in 1783 in England.

Regards
Allan Roy

Hello Allan,

I know this is 60 years before your time-frame but it may be wise to note this coincidence.  An Isaac Debnam was baptised in Warminster 12 Apr 1712, father Daniell Debnam.  No mother shown.  There is a record of Daniel Debnam marrying Jane Knight 26 Dec 1710 in Warminster.

There is also a record of an Isaac Debnam marrying in Bishopstrow Wiltshire on 15 Aug 1758 to Jane Cowley. I haven't found any children of this marriage yet.  (All information from the BVRI2)

Wiltshire seems to be one of the areas where the name occurs.  There are also many instances of the christian names Daniel, Ezekiel, Benjamin.

Hope this helps

Nell
