???
Could someone pleeeeease help - I am hitting a brick wall trying to find information on Terrance Duff, before and after the 1881 census.
Terrance was born 1841 in Ireland, married Margaret Brown - when and where??? Ireland, Scotland, England????
The last info in the 1881 census had them lodging at 14 Alma Street, Middlesbrough - he was a labourer at an ironworks. They had 3 children, Julia, born Scotland, Andrew and Margaret, both born in Middlesbrough.
I can find no trace of Margaret Brown in this year, maybe I'm not looking in the right place...
Would appreciate any help, ie: birth cert details, marriage certs, every little helps..
cheers Wendy

Hi Wendy, Andrew's birth info is on Freebmd. Maybe Margaret was visiting the family in Ireland, it's likely that's where she came from. Try a search of the 1871 census to see if you can pick them up.
My Gt G/mother is also missing on the 1881 census, she was Irish but her husband and kids appear in Lambeth. She died in Lambeth Infirmary in 1883, so I don't know if she got missed in the Infirmary when they counted!!
Good Luck

The birth of Julia should be on the IGI if she was born in Scotland as the civil births to 1874 or 1875 are there. I couldn't find her. Checking 1891, the only Julia Duff I can find is a lodger in Scotland - stated that she is born in England ??? Occupation rewinder
Head of household is Margaret McLean aged 64 annuitant
Not alot of help - sorry

The link works fine for me - anyway, these are the details of the wedding on SP which gives more details:
Terence John McDuff 24 Hammerman parents James McDuff, small farmer and Mary nee Hinnon
Margaret Brown 20 parents Thomas Brown, blacksmith (journeyman) and
Judy Jurnion (?? hard to read)
married 11/9/1869 Coatbridge, (district Old Monkland).
Their dau. Julia's birth registered on SP as Julia Durnan McilDuff (?) 14/3/1874 Old Monkland.
So 'McDuff' became 'Duff' when they got to England.

If your attempt to access the link was recent then it may help to know you have to create an account (free) with family search before you can search or view. In my opinion its well worth it as its a very useful site.

Thank you for All your help, could any one help with Terrance parents in Ireland please? James McDuff and Mary née Hinnon? I know Irish records are hard but any help would be appreciated, this is the closest I’ve gotten to be able to trace further with Terrance.

Hi Wendy
Not sure if this is of any help but .. I've been researching my McIlduff family tree for over 20 years and along the way have gathered information on any McIlduffs I come across.
I have a Terence John MCILDUFF married to Margaret Brown (as above and marriage as MCDUFF) I have his parents as James MCILDUFF and Mary HEENAN.
I have come across various spelling of my surname including McDuff, Duff, McKillduff, McGillduff amongst others.
Please contact me if you think this is your family, although I only have very small amount of info on this line, it might be of help

Hi yes it appears Terence is my GGG grandad. The alternate names don’t not help lol. Do you have any info on where he and Margaret were born in Ireland, as that’s my brick wall. I can’t get any further than this. I have it that they moved to Middlesbrough and name became Duff.
Thank you I appreciate any help 😊
