I am looking for more information on a set of my GGrandparents.
My Grandfather is Frank Alfred TWYMAN b 24 Apr 1921 Thanet, I found his mothers maiden name to be GURR from the BMD index.
I then found a marriage between an Arthur TWYMAN and a May L GURR, Q4 1911 in Thanet. I know it isn't the best way to go about things like this but i am assuming (for now!) that these are his parents.
I'm pretty sure the whole family are from the Thanet area of Kent - so i just wondered if the 1891/1901 census brings up many possibilities? I think they were both born around 1886/1887.
They had 3 children that i know of: Arthur H (1913), Frank Alfred (1921), and Albert J (1925). These might provide some clue as far as names go!

A May Gurr born 1887 - Marshside Sturry, Kent - was in service as a Nursemaid to the Beerling household in Minster in 1901 .... Clifford Beerling was a Blacksmith, living in Albert Cootage, High Street, Minster

Going back to 1891 to find May Gurr with parents and siblings .... its good that her PoB was specific in 1901, as there are a couple of candidates in 1891 - but this looks good.

Thats the May Gurr I identified too (b.1887 Marshside), so I now feel like I'm definitely going in the correct direction :)
Are there anymore siblings on the 1871 for either families? And if possible, could you do an earlier lookup on the fathers for me?

Spotted a problem - May GURR b. 1887 Blean was registered as May Victoria, I've now found her marriage in 1908 and it doesn't pair up with an Arthur Twyman.
The marriage definitely says May L - I may have to trawl through the BMD to find her birth and hope she was registered May L - although being married in 1911, she must be on the 1901 census at least.
Perhaps my mum was mistaken, and that side of the family weren't from Thanet...

you May have to get the marriage Cert to reveal her Father's name .... all Mays currently transcribed seem to be in London or Kent 1870 onwards ....
also she may have been a name-swapper - registered as XXX May Gurr, and then used May as her name ....

My grandparents are Arthur Twyman and Daisy Saunders . Arthur is the son of Arthur Twyman and May Gurr .
Just starting out helping my daughter Chloe with a school project. she's been asked to produce something epic :o and has decided to do a book on our family tree and history so if you could you help me with any info that would be gratefully received. ;D

would like to know what part of thanet as margate had lots and so did Ramsgate would appear many of them link together in many parts of kent

you have three children listed but there are two more,
my mum- May lillian born11/05/1928 and her brother robert, not sure of his date of birth though.

Just for some clarification, May L. Gurr was actually born as Lilian May Gurr, 13/5/1889 Graveney, Kent, dau. of John Gurr and Emma Packman.
1891 census with family she is Lilian M.
1901 census with family she is now May.
Her death is as Lilian May Twyman born 13/5/1889, d.1975 Thanet.
Husband Arthur Twyman bc.1887, died 1952 Thanet.
(son Robert was Robert J. Twyman b.Sept.qtr.1916)
