Title: brick walls
Post by: snowolf on Monday 23 April 07 08:05 BST (UK)
:'(I have a headache with hitting so many brick walls .....please can someone help ?
I am looking for the marraige of "Alice Jane Durward" born 1889 Scotland ,but who emigrated to Sydney(with her sisters & mother)..in around 1922-26,i cant find a marrige here in Scotland so reckon she married down under....apparently she married an American but do not have his name .

I'm also looking for "Phillis Grieve" (nee Durward) born Scotland 1900. she was married to "Richard Grieve" they married here in Dundee ,Scotland in 1919.,but possibly emigrated with her sisters too . I do know she had died by 1947.

perhaps a ships listing of passengers can have their names on it ....the years would be 1922-1926.    the whole family that went to Australia were

Jane smith Durward   ,who was their mother         (have her death certificate )
Mary Ann Mitchell , and her children
Charles Mitchell
Isabella Ford
david Ford
Alice jane Durward ,
possibly Phillis Grieve & husband Richard .

the name of the ship maybe "Christiana"?

sorry for giving everyone else a headache too.
 any help or advice appreciated
 thanks
 snowolf

Hey snowolf

Paracetemol (or wine) works very well for headaches of this kind, depending on your tastes.

The New South Wales BMD are online and I found :-

Phyllis GRIEVE death 1926 in Marrickville which is in Sydney.  Her parents are listed as William and Jane E.

Phyllis GRIEVE death 1937 parents Alexander Stuart and Phyllis in Canterbury, Sydney

They may not have stayed in New South Wales though.

Cheers
Karenlee

Hi snowolf

You say you have Jane Smith DURWARD's death Cetificate.

Who gave the information?  Where was she buried? What is the date of Death?

We can check newspapers for a death notice, see if we can gleam any information that way.

Regards

Genni

Could she have married to Richard Ryder Lewis in 1919 in Vancouver, British Columbia?
Father William Durward

Added Richard Ryder Lewis appears to have died in 1925 according to familysearch so if its the correct Alice perhaps she joined the rest of the family after that.

It’s interesting to see that Snowolf has never replied to comments made on this thread, even though they have been online as recently as 12 September, this year. I wonder if they aren’t receiving email notifications of replies and have forgotten they have posted their initial post.
