with a little help from Genuki, Eliza's pob in 1871 is Oare.
-
Hi Osprey/Mary, got called away..good finds.
1851 - H0107/1864/338/8
Salcombe Regis, Devon
Head by John Taylor & large family
William Gould 24, Visitor, farm lab, Northmolton, Devon
Same page next house up is Jane Gould age 26, born Credition Devon, Cook to John Farrell (county judge) & Family.
Possible marriage - Sept Q 1852 William Gould - Jane Gould Swansea 11a 619
Spec I know, but interesting. Could be proved/disproved via certs perhaps kissing cousins, their unrelated or red herring!
Also pob ??? for Eliza Gould (second wife of Will in 1881)
possible - 1891 RG12/4404/48/19 Cardiff Union Workhouse
Elisabeth Gould, wid, 65, pauper inmate, Shepton Somerset.

Well, that makes sense of the 1881 pob for Elizabeth. There's a Croscombe 2 miles from Shepton Mallet, but doesn't help with Oare as that is between Porlock and Lynton. :-\
Getting one of the birth certs would help with the maiden name
Joseph Richard Gould sept qtr 1860 Swansea vol 11a pg 503
Elizabeth Gould sept qtr 1853 Swansea vol 11a pg 399
Think that marriage for William & Jane looks a likely prospect.

Checked the IGI Hugh Wallis site for North Molton. The are many Gould and varient. Also Bowden/Bawden. Would keep 'Bawden' in mind when searching census for this family.
There is a poss for William in 1851 parents Henry/Elizabeth Bawden. but you need to confirm with certs to know you are tracking the right family.
Let us know how you get on...

ThanksCas and osprey for a very quick response. Have to now print it out and digest it. The fact Wm is originally from Devon, and English made me laugh, ;D as hubby thinks he is 100% Scottish.
I have the 1881 census at home, couldn't find the family. As Elizabeth died here in Greenock, another visit to park Circus is required.
Thank you all once again :)

May be a long shot, but my step-father's family are all Gould's (in South Wales), and his brother has done extensive research into the family - I know that the family were originally from Devon, but don't know the specifics.
I'll print this off and speak to him this week (won't be tonite) to see if he has any matches on this.

:) thanks halfasheep much appriciated
-
Sorry - not a part of our lot :(
I'm not that into the Gould side of the family as it's my step-father's side (nothing personal, just not blood related).
Seems that (and you probably know this) a lot of families came from Devon to Wales following the coal industry and a stable job.
-
Not to worry - thanks for taking the time to check :)

Greetings to All,
William Bowden is my Great Uncle that I have been searchingh for. All of your notes are very helpful and I will follow up on them as this is the focus of my research.
William was the son of Henry Bawden and Elizabeth Webber. He was born 29 March 1847 in North
Molton Devon. Had two brothers, James Bawden and Joseph Bowden. Names changes++.
If any of you are a descendant of this family, Please contact me.
Thank you
Winnifred
