Hi,
Can anybody help.
I am looking for reference to the birth (baptism) of a Jane Clay who was born sometime around 1800 at Hanmer, Flintshire.
Many thanks in anticipation of your help.
Regards
Brian

There is a Baptism of a Jane Clay in nearby Penley on the 3rd of September 1809,to Parents John and Ann Clay.

William,
Thanks for that information. I am not sure if that is the correct Jane Clay or not.
The Jane Clay I am after as:
Aged 42 in the 1841 census i.e born 1798/99
aged 51 in the 1851 census i.e born 1799/1800
Aged 60 in the 1861 census i.e born 1801/02.
In the 1851 & 1861 census she gives her place of birth as Hanmer.
She was married in December 1822 at Shocklach in Cheshire.
Do you know if Penley is part of Hammer Parish?
Do you have access to Hanmer Parish records?
Regards
Brian

According to the IGI Jane married James Warburton at Shochlach on the 31st of December 1821.The IGI further lists the Baptism of a Jane Clay at Hanmer in 1794 to Parents John and Ann Clay.I don't have the Parish Registers for Hanmer at home,but have access to them at the Resource Centre of Clwyd FHS,which I will be going to hopefully this Tuesday. As far as Penley is concerned,it is about three miles from Hanmer.You can see further details of the Hanmer Parish at;

Hi William,
Thanks for your reply.
you are correct Jane Clay married in 1821. I had finger problems when typing my reply to you.
The Jane Clay christened in Hanmer 1794 looks possible. She was older than her husband and could have under estimated her age in the 1841 to 1861 censuses.
I did niot realise that Hanmer was on the IGI. I have a link to web site with IGI batch numbers and Hanmer is missing from Flintshire. If you could look up the Hanmer parish records sometime that would be great. Any information on Jane Clay and her family would be very welcome.

Brian

Another way of accessing the Clay info on the IGI on the LDS Site,is on the main search page, click on IGI,just fill in British Isles,Wales and Flint, and just enter the Surname of Clay. You will find the Batch Numbers for Hanmer this way.

After todays visit to the Resource Centre of Clwyd FHS,I can confirm that the Baptism of Jane Clay in 1794 I quoted earlier,is the only possibility. There was no Baptism for a Jane Clay at Hanmer in c 1800.

I'll second that William she was the only one I could find at the records office April 27 1794.

Paul & William,
Thank for both your replies.
It looks to me that Jane Clay was baptised in 1794 and that for some reason she underestimated her age in the 1841, 1851 & 1861 censuses. Now that I have realised that Hanmer christenings are on te IGI I have had a look in more detail at the christenings at Hanmer.
It would appear that Jane Clay had a daughter Ann who was christened on 15th Jan 1815. Which means she was still in Hanmer in 1815.
Jane Clay's (baptised 1794) parents were John Clay and Ann (possibly nee Edwards). Are there any marriage records on the IGI from Hanmer as I haven't found any yet?
I wonder if the father John Clay is the John Clay who was christened in 1755 father Richard
I hve summarised below the christenings of the Clay families in Hanmer:

I would be very interested in any Edwards that you find for definite,as I have a couple of Edwards Bloodlines from the area that sadly to date,I have made little headway with.

As far as the Marriage of John Clay and Ann is concerned, you may be lucky,as it states on the Genuki page for Hanmer that the Marriage records 1784-1813 were destroyed in the Fire of 1889.

William,
Thanks for both your replies.
Firstly. The reference to the surname Edwards; in looking at the christening record on the IGI for Richard Clay 9 May 1784 his mothers name is given as Ann Edwards Clay. In my summary I assumed that Edwards was her maiden name.
Secondly: I would like to look through the marriages and deaths of Hanmer Parish Register. I live on the Wirral but finfd that as I work it is difficult to get to the Record office at Hawarden. You mention the Clwyd FHS Resource centre in one of your replies. Does the society allow outsiders to use the resource centre and can it be used in the evenings?
