Has anyone out there come across any 'Caswell' s living in Wales, possibly Cardiff?
I'm looking for JOHN ALFRED CASWELL born 1889. He emigrated to S.Africa approx. 1916 and died 1937.
Any help at all very much appreciated.

Looking at your previous posts I would guess he was born in Wales. Do you know anything about his parents/siblings?
Here's a possible:

Hi Kim,
There is also a very long line of Caswells from Shropshire, which borders Wales.
Here are some very useful links on Caswells.

I see you've already posted here but I'll put it in anyway:

Hi Paul
Many thanks for all your trouble. The information I have is taken from his death cert in 1937 - it states: John Alfred Caswell born 1889 Wales. It says that both parents are deceased but gives no names - helpful!
My father-in-law seemed to think he was from Cardiff & had no siblings but cannot take this as gospel.
I will try the other places you suggested & see if that leads anywhere. A couple of the mails you sent were blocked due to copyright breach so I was unable to read them. Thanks for all your help - will let you know if I get any developments.

I'm afraid I don't have any details, but I know for certain that there is a family with the Caswell surname living in the Gorseinon area of Swansea.
We used to have a regular customer come into the shop I was working in at the time, called Mr Caswell. He was an elderly man and I know he has descendants in the area.
Sorry I can't be more help.

Hi Paul
Many thanks - I'm pretty sure the John Alfred born in Cornwall died quite soon after but the John born in Corwen is worth further investigation - thanks again

Hi Bethan
Many thanks for info. Please excuse my ignorance but can you tell me which County the Rhonnda comes under?
Cheers

Hello Rance, if you are looking at the 1881 census Rhondda was then called Ystradfodwg, later on it came under Mid Glamorgan, the Caswell's that I know originated in Clydach in the Rhondda, hope this helps if not get in touch again.
Best Wishes Bethan

Many thanks for clarifying that for me - gets a bit confusing sometimes!
