Title: Old Photos of Maidstone?
Post by: csmalley on Thursday 14 June 07 16:11 BST (UK)
Does anyone know if there are any surviving photos of Maidstone (Week St/Sandling Road), early to mid 1800's? A few of my direct descendents had businesses there, including one who was a hairdresser and I'd love to know if any exist.

Information gratefully recieved!

Many Thanks,
Clare

Photography didn't start until about 1840 so you're being a bit optimistic. ;)

There are some old photographs of Maidstone on this site:

Hi Clare

Have you tried the following?

Alternatively, I would think that Maidstone Library probably have a collection of old local photographs and a number of local photographic books more recently published.

I knew I should have listened at school ;D

I'll try giving the library a ring, Thanks Casalguidi

Maidstone Museum had an exhibition of photographs of old Maidstone a while ago.

I don't know whether the photos are being exhibited anywhere at the moment.
