Looking for Birth of And Parents Of Samuel Ballard
Born Cainham / Bitterley Shrop
Died Age 80 Downton on the Rock Shrop Nov 11 1869
So approx birth 1769 :o
Hes on all census although his age varies i still believe it is all the same man as there are no other by that name Living in Downton
Any one fancy finding his Birth and Mum and Dad ??

I've done a search using Hugh Walllis's IGI Batch Numbers for Shropshire (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountyShropshire.htm#C). I checked Caynham and Bitterley but nothing for your Samuel, although there are a lot of other Ballard families listed. Would you like those details?
The only other thing I can suggest is to contact The Shropshire Archives (http://www.shropshire.gov.uk/archives.nsf). I know that the staff will do a 10 minute look up for free. Full contact details can be found in the website.
If you don't have any luck, let me know, and I could have a look for you myself when I next visit the Archives. Unfortunately, I have a huge list of promises to do for other RC members which I would need to do first.

I've checked through my Shropshire sources and can't come up with a Samuel b/bpt circa 1789 anywhere in Shropshire. There are two much earlier Samuel's mentioned in Bitterley - b. 1673 (son of John) and 1701 (son of George). Otherwise, nothing :(
The main Ballard couple producing children around that time were Edward and Mary, who had a son, Daniel, bpt. April 1789 and a lone Ann Ballard.
You probably have found this since it is reproduced on the IGI. The Ballards of Bitterly certainly seem to go back a long way if you can link into them.

I've looked and looked - I think he is probably the son of that Ann but I have no proof - just me hunch :-\

More seriously, it might be that you have to look at which Ballards were having children around the time of your Samuel's birth. In Bitterley, it was Edward and Mary and an Ann. I can't find anyone oin Cainham/Caynham around that time.

The only Samuels are in Bitterley, allbeit 80-100 years before the birth of yours. I'm thinking that it might be worth working through the records of these Samuels' descndants to see if there are any patterns. I think that is your only hope. The records might have been lost, the vicar/clerk might have lost the info on the baptism or not entered it or he might have changed his name. These things happened. I have quite a few :-\

In 1881 Census Till 1901 Census he was in Presteigne !
So he must have liked it :D
But Most Seemed to be around Leintwardine till 1901 when they all moved about :o

chr 3/feb/1786, Great witley Worcester,
Father William Ballard, Mother Jane,
By far the nearest I can find to your 1789 birth, also by memory I seem to think Great Witley is pretty close to Bitterley I havent googled it or looked on a map but it might be worth you having a look,

On this line so far i have come to this conclusion
I have looked at Bitterley and Cainham baptism
registers 1781-92 but have been unable to find the baptism of Samuel
Ballard.
No children with the surname Ballard were baptized at Cainham during that
period but there were a number of children of Edward and Mary Ballard
baptized at Bitterley, namely John in 1777, Elizabeth in 1779, Jane in
1781, George in 1783, Mary in 1785 and Daniel in 1789. Samuel could have
been born between 1785 and 1789 and simply not been baptized or the entry
not made. This seems a distinct possibility but I am afraid there is no way
of proving it.
