Post by: therocketteers on Tuesday 26 June 07 08:42 BST (UK)
Can anyone tell me if the Derby Local Studies have the electoral rolls for 1891 onwards and whether anyone could do a look up for me please?

Yes they have all the Electrol Rolls, but bare in mind the real early ones only have the property owner, no Femails, etc, i will possably be going Saturday, what are you looking for?, they also have quite a good Street Directory for 1903/16/35, not Kellys.

will have a look, my freind Keith Bromage, was born on Stockbrook Street, his grandad William Bromage, was a Footballer and later a Trainer for Derby County, his brother Enos Bromage was also a Footballer, if i remember rightly the first Goalkeeper for Leeds United, my freind Keith has Football medals and Photos of the Bromage brothers in teams from the period 1910 to 1920ish with teams like Wolves/Leeds/ Sheffield United/ Derby and others, i think his Great Grandad was from the Crick area of Northants before moving to Derby

I only had a brief time at the Library on Saturday, but when i go again i will have a look at the St Luke's parish Records for Deaths,,

I think the 1901 census address of 184 Stockbrook Street to be Correct, maybe they moved next door for a better House.
1903 Directory of Derby.
184 Stockbrook Street - Bromage, Mrs Eliza.
322 Stockbrook Street - Bromage, John /Foreman. (as per 1901 census may not  be a direct relative).

1916 Directory of Derby.
318 Stockbrook Street - Bromage, William/ Brick Burner.
322 Stockbrook Street - Bromage, John / Brickyard Foreman.

no Henry Bromage or DunKley listed in these Directories.

1900 Electoral Roll.
322 Stockbrook Street - John Bromage.
184 Stockbrook Street - Henry Bromage.

1902-03 Electoral Roll.
322 Stockbrook Street - John Bromage.
184 Stockbrook Street - Henry Bromage.

1904-05 Electoral Roll.
314 Stockbrook Street - Henry Bromage. (possably your Henry?)
322 Stockbrook Street - John Bromage.
190 Stockbrook Street - Henry Bromage. (maybe John's son))
no 184 listed.

1905-06 Electoral Roll.
184 Stockbrook Street - Arthur Selby.
190 Stockbrook Street  - John Bromage.

Henry may have moved from 184 after his mothers death in 1903, onto 314 Stockbrook Street, then out of the Area altogether, will see if i can see any more next week.
Regards Alvaston Lad.

I must say a big thank you to Alvaston Lad who has helped me someway to ending a 15+ year search.
I have today received the death certificate for "Harry Bromage" whom I believe to be my Henry.
His address at death was 198 Stockbrook Street, having died in 1916.
I had believed him to have died at the turn of the century but thanks to Alvaston Lad, I looked further...and the rest is history , as they say!!
I would still like to find his grave but I cannot thank you enough.

Hi,
I've just joined RootsChat, and I quickly found this old message from "Alvaston Lad" mentioning his friend Keith Bromage, who was born on Stockbrook Street, his grandad William Bromage, was a Footballer and later a Trainer for Derby County...

Well, one of my immediate family is also a direct descendant of Billy Bromage, so we would like to make contact with Alvaston Lad initially, to then hopefully get contact with Keith to discuss the family history and share our knowledge on their footballing achievements. Keith is a relative whom we don't know at the moment. We are currently doing our "Bromage family tree" and their help or input would be much appreciated!
