Good morning RootsChatters, :)
Isle of Mull: McDIARMID / McDERMID
I would be pleased to make contact with members/historians of the above family/ies prior to the 1850s.
Many members of the family/ies emigrated to Australia in 1838.
My wife is a descendant of these immigrants.
With thanks

I am looking to sort out my McDermid family and trace their roots. My great grandmother was Margaret McDermid b. 13 March, 1844 to Duncan McDermid and Catherine McNaughton in Glengarry Co., Ontario. I have Duncan''s birthday as 9 May, 1812 but no confirmation or proof of that. I have Catherine McNaughton's b day as 23 Mar., 1821 (parents John McNaughton and Mary Dingwall) and both born in Glengarry, Ontario.
I have Duncan's parents as Duncan McDermid b. 12 May 1757 and Jane McGregor b. abt. 1768, both in Perthshire, Scotland. Duncan's tombstone says Breadalbane, Perthshire.
I believe Duncan's (1757) father was Hugh McDermid but cannot seem to link with any particular line.
I believe Duncan Jr. (1812) had brothers Finley and John as there is evidence to support this and most likely at least 4 other siblings. The problem is the alternate lines born close to the same time with the same names.
Any info would be appreciated.

To EDO
Sorry, missed adding in my message to you re the McDermid family. I have just found a contact who has information re Mary Stewart's family. I tried contacting you through your website but the message won't go through.
I have been given her siblings marriages and death details.

My wife's ancestors were Donald McDERMID b c1793 and Mary STEWART b c1793 in Ardnamurchan ARL SCT
Would like to have a confirmed link but, cannot see one at this stage.

I'm in the early stages of my paternal line and it looks like I have an Isabella McDermid married to Hugh McColl in 1840 in Argyllshire. Possible father Archibald McDermid.
More checking is required before I can confirm this

The marriage of Isabella McDermid and Hugh McColl was proclaimed in Duror Argyll on 23 Feb 1840 and in Kilninver and Kilmelfort Argyll on 25 Feb 1840
When Isabella died on 23 June 1893 at Blackcrofts, Ardchattan, Argyll her parents were given as
Archibald McDermid and Mary Tyson who were married on 2 Jan 1814 at Muckairn, Argyll
I cannot find Isabella's christening record on the OPR's but found these records for children of Archibald McDermid and Mary Tyson
15/02/1817 MCDERMID JEAN at Kilmore and Kilbride /ARGYLL
07/02/1819 MCDERMID JOHN at Kilmore and Kilbride /ARGYLL
28/02/1821 MCDERMID MARGARET at Kilmore and Kilbride /ARGYLL
13/07/1825 MCDERMID ANN at Kilmore and Kilbride /ARGYLL
05/02/1831 MCDERMID THOMAS at Kilmore and Kilbride /ARGYLL

I am researching the Stewart families from Ardnamurchan in Argyll and am related to Mary Stewart, who married Donald McDiarmid and moved with their children to NSW on the George Fyfe, via her sister Sarah.
I have been in contact with a number of my McDermid cousins over the last couple of years and decided to try and pull together a tree of all of Donald and Mary's descendants. The "McDermid - Ardnamurchan & NSW" tree is publically listed on Ancestry.com and contains about 420 people. I have shamelessly "stolen" info from wherever I could find it, to try and come up with a "definitive" view of the family.
If you have an interest in this family and have access to Ancestry, please view the tree and send me any updates, or if you don't have access, get in touch and I will invite you onto the tree as a guest

Hi Sancti,
Isabella McDermid was a times X grandmother of mine.
I am interested to know how you established the proclamation of the marriage in Duror and anything you might have relative to her husband Hugh McColl.
