Hi, can anyone help me find a John Degney who must have emigrated to the North East of England (darlington, durham, middlesbrough, hartlepool) in the 1840s or 1850s. I believe he married a lady called Jane and had a daughter Ann, sons James and Thomas etc. Not sure of the origin of the surname Degney - is it a common one in Ireland???
