I'm helping a friend research her tree and am trying to tie her grandfather (who we only know as W.T. Ellison) to the above company.
She knows he had an engineering business and on googling I wonder if it was the company that made turnstiles around 1950/51. I have found the patent to such online with the company address as 323, Bolton Road, Pendleton, Salford 6.
Can anyone tell me who owned the company and anymore about it?
(I realise the Manchester Records Office may hold more info but I am curretnly housebound due to an injury)

Hi rose, sorry to here your not so well. I think i would look for records in Salford library?
I found this company in Salford and think it could be the one your looking for?
this is taken from the 1900/01 Telephone book.
Hope it helps/

Thanks very much - that's def the turnstile company! I just need to think about ordering some certificates to tie her in!
Thanks also for your good wishes - in myself I am fine but have injured my knee meaning to date I have been off work for 7 weeks! To break my boredom I said I would research a friends tree which is proving VERY interesting compared to my own!

Just found them on the 1929 directory

Oh Fab!!
I don't have any access to directories but realised I do have phone books on Ancestry!
All I know about my friends gt grandfather is that he was WT Ellison who had an engineering company. He married a Mabel (who died c1984) and died c1949. Their daughter was born 1929.
So I think it's time for me to hunt the BMD's!!
Thanks again

Hello !
This rang a bell with me as I recalled a local issue of Times Link mentioning these turnstiles and here are the web links:
www.salford.gov.uk/issue15.pdf
www.salford.gov.uk/link16.pdf
Also found a site mentioning his grandson:
December 2003: Norman writes (see Guest Book) "My father, Arthur Ellison, worked at M&P Park Works from the 1920s to 1962 when he retired as the foreman of the Machine Tool Maintenance Dept. He was born in Lower Broughton, Salford and lived in Camp St. His father (my grandfather) W.T.Ellison, designed the early "Non-Rush" Turnstiles which are still at many stadiums throughout the world - including Old Trafford cricket ground and, until recently, at Maine Road football ground
See www.zip.com.au/~lnbdds/Boschi/lsa/lsa01.htm for more info.
Good luck.

Thanks very much for these links. The Salford links are fascinating - I have enjoyed reading all the articles!
I had found the comments from Norman Ellison but there is no way to contact him via the website :-\.
I need to get on with hunting down BMD's - so far I haven't had much luck!
-
Hi,
This may be nothing but then again......
The 1901 census has a 5 year old William T Elllison born Irlams o`th Height and living in Pendlebury. Father is listed as THOMAS Wm Ellison aged 34 a Mechanical and Consulting Engineer, Employer born Salford. Reference is
RG13/3720 folio 142 page 5.
In 1891 the above Thomas Wm is, I suspect, WILLIAM T ELLISON son of a William T Eliison, Blacksmith living in Broughton. Reference RG12/3211 folio 46 page 25.
Just thought I should mention the entries as they do seem to "fit"
Regards.

Hi Chelsea
I won't name the friend (who is actually an ex-work colleague of my husbands)on here but she does live in Manchester (will PM you).
I researched her tree as a project to keep me busy when I had 7 months off work due to a knee injury. I no longer have access to her tree as I have either deleted it or it was on my previous PC!
I did however provide the friend with the tree as a Gedcom and printed in a file.
-
There is one of these on St Annes pier. If you have done the family research I would be interested in how far back you got?

I am related to a branch of Ellisons one of whom was the architect for Salford Cathedral and I have often wondered if this family is related.

Hello

I recently found a Deluce's Rush Preventive Turnstile Plate buried in my garden in Macclesfield that has an error in the typeface -
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qEpMhv0xl2uSCSqGsfW4QNDaI00h_dWE/view?usp=sharing
It says "RJSH...." instead of "RUSH....". Is this of interest?

I started this thread when researching for a friend. I haven’t kept anything from that time to be able to help - paper copies and the bed on went to her and I am no longer in touch with her.
