Could someone with the 1861 census of Isle Of Man please find for me EUNICE MOORE AGED 12.
I have been looking everywhere...maybe she is here!
She was born in England, Staffordshire I think.
Yours hopefully,

Thank you Karenlee,
I love your office!
No this is not her. I was hoping she might have been "visitor, or servant."
She was married as Hampson, but on her son's (my grandfather) birth certificate she is down as formerly Moore.
I think she was  born around West Bromwich.
Thank you anyway,
from Caloundra, Sunshine coast.

Hi Mavis

Why do you think she might be "alone" - without her family - have you found them?

What other info is on the marriage cert - does it give her father's name/ occupation?

Do you have her on other censuses?

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)

In 1871 Eunice (on this census she is Unice) is age 19 born Holloway Bank.
Brother is Alfred born About 1838  Wednesbury.
Mother Sarah Hampson born 1809, Holloway Bank.

In 1861 Eunice is with father Richard Hampsosn age 68, mother Sarah age 54 and Alfred age 40.
Lois age 20,  Sarah 16,  Isiah age 18 and Eunice 9.

Yet she married as a Hampson, to Joseph Henry Cole in 27 Dec 1874 Christ Church ,west Bromwich.
On her son's birth certificate she is down as "formerly Moore". My mother always said she was a Moore, from the family who manufactured iron man hole covers!
Such a puzzle...that is what makes Family History so interesting.
Regards,
Mavis

Ermmm, now I am confused - you asked for an 1861 look-up but you now say that you know where Eunice is - should that be 1881?

Will have another look, but you didn't really answer my questions - father's occupation for example, witnesses on the marriage cert if you have one?

I wondered whether Sarah had been a MOORE before marriage, but it looks as though she was possibly HAWKINS - there is a HAWKINS son-in-law present with the family in 1851.

West Midlands BMD has a birth for Eunice HAMPSON, so although there is a gap in the children in the family, she is still Richard's daughter and not born MOORE.

Thank you everybody.
I am the same Mavis.
Eunice's father was a coachsmith.  I do not have her marriage certificate.
In 1861 she was in Holloway Bank, but as Hampson.  I was wondering if the Eunice Moore in Isle of Man could have been her as a servant or visitor! So she is not, so she remains as Hampson. I wondered if she just changed her name for her marriage?
Perhaps her marriage certificate is the way to go!
What a puzzle.
Thanks all.
Mavis

Yes, it sounds as though that would be worthwhile investment.

Let us know what it says.
