Title: Re: 1841 Sussex Census Tarrent
Post by: Prince on Wednesday 14 July 04 10:45 BST (UK)
Hi Chris,

Thanks for the offer, I wonder if you could locate James TARRANT born between 1790 - 1820, should be living in Sussex, I can't be more specific on location I'm afraid and will understand if it is not possible.

Thanks
Kevin.

Hi Kevin

James Tarrant, born between 1790 & 1820 living somewhere in Sussex

Sorry Kevin, your criteria would take hours if not days to try and locate and would cover more than one generations.

If you can come back with something more specific will attempt to locate him.

The information you provided, where did you obtain that from - are there any more clues in the same source?

I am at last making progress on my TARRANT's in Sussex/ Kent - here are the details of the family in 1861;

Tunwell Cottage Tunbridge Wells

Henry Tarrant 38 Ladies Shoemaker b St Pancras
Abigail 31 Shoe Binder b East Dean Sussex
Henry W 15 Teacher of Pupils b St marylebone
Peter 5 b Tunbridge Wells
James 2 b Ditto
Kitty 7 months b Ditto
Elizabeth Baker Boarder 22 Serv b Heathfield Sussex.
Mary A Baker 5 months b Wokefield Sussex

Now I know by 1881 they were living at 3 Lancaster Street, Lewes. I really would like to find them in 1871 but neither area's are on ancestry yet and I am not even sure if the census is accessible anywhere?!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
Kevin.

Hi Prince

Well done on the progress you are making so far.

I do not have access at home to the 1871 census for Lewes; but I do have "Lewes in 1871, A household and political directory" by Colin Brent.

Listed at 45 Sun Street, Lewes (next to Lancaster Street) is
TARRANT Henry, Age 26, Born Christchurch,Hampshire, J Carpenter, 4 people in
Household - Did not vote.

(Its data from the 1871 census, cross referenced with the data from local election and who they voted for)

This is the one and only entry for Tarrant

Could be of use to you

Hi again

Found this entry in the Baptisms at St John Sub Castro - Lancaster street runs along side of the Churchyard

1878 March 3, Tarrent John George, m, son of Henry & Abigail, Lancaster St, Shoe Maker

Fits in with your family.

Looks like they were not there in Lewes in 1871, (previous post) but were there in 1878
