Hi Does anyone have any info on William Ayling around Chichester. Father was George and mother Mary Iracis?

I'm sure we'd all love to help but could you be a bit more specific in the information you require?
For example if you'd like census lookups dates of birth for William and or his parents would be usefull.

Thank you. All I have is that William Ayling is my GG grandfather. He worked his passage to Australia from the Isle of White. Father is George and mother is Mary Iracis? My g grandmother was born in Victoria in 1888 so he was in Oz by then!

Info is from G Grandmother's mouth who lived to be 101! This is all I have. I looked up 'Chichester' on google map and it had it in Sussex.

Its a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack, there are about 170 William Aylings born Sussex.
Only one on the 1881 census and he was born 1880 with parents George and Mary, and this one is still there in 1891
None on the 1871 that I can see with parents George and Mary.
Perhaps someone can do better

Thanks for looking for me. Perhaps someone could help with passenger lists of William Ayling? He married Emma Price born Oxfordshire 1849. She sailed to Oz in mid 1850's aged 6.

on the 1851 census, there is this family

William is not with his family
there is a William Ayling born 1842 Chichster who is a soldier, living in the barracks at Chichster. This all guess work as to who William Ayling is .

Looking at the Sussex Marriage Index (SMI) this is the best one between a George & Mary. As you can see Mary is 17 which gives a DOB of about 1819. The DOB Ricky found on 1851 was 1816 & that Mary appears OLDER than her husband, so some debate there :-\
The other marriages on the SMI between a George Ayling & a Mary are earlier;
2/4/1821 to Mary Ann VERALL, Boxgrove, W. Ssx
12/8/1826 to Mary Goodyer, Yapton, W. Ssx
17/5/1829 to Mary HAYLER, Slaugham, W. Ssx
So this looks the best bet & certainly looks like the same couple Ricky found in 1851.

George Cater AYLING, bach S.Andrew Chich.
Mary FOGDEN, sp 17 wcof Thos.yeo
wcof=With Consent of father, Thomas, yeoman. The marriage took place 3 days later.

George Cater AYLING, S.Andrew
Mary FOGDEN, (lic)
This looks to be the same couple in 1841 that Ricky found in 1851;

No name on the SMI, IRACIS.
Di, I think it might be a good idea to find William's death/burial in Oz, then his marriage details, then his passage from the UK. I think his death certificate might reveal how many years he was in Oz which would narrow down your search.

I did find on the NSW births & deaths page evidence of a John William Ayling & Emma in Sydney having a child, Annie Laws 1876 & unfortunately losing her the same year & the thought struck me that his name might have been JOHN WILLIAM, on occasions prefering to use just, William. A thought to keep in mind,

Old post but for what it's worth, if you are on Ancestry, check out "Aylings of Boxgrove, Sussex Family Tree" which has George's entire line. We can trace things back to a John Ayling born about 1742 (based on his DOB listed on his Boxgrove burial in 1816). Could be any of these:

My folks are not exactly from this group (in Graffham), although I suspect we have a shared ancestor in the 1600's.
YDNA testing of 10 (so far) Ayling men with ancestors in various parishes in West Sussex has shown that we all have nearly identical Y chromosomes. We are the great, great, great etc grandsons of the same man. Comparing mutational differences in our YDNA predicts that person was born around the mid 1500's.
