I think I know the identity of this individual, but if anyone could hazard a date and the sex of the child I would apprciate it. Restorations will just be a bonus!

Hi Steve
I would bet on female :-\ :-\
Here are 2 bonus cleanups , although not much to go at ;) ;)

Lets assume it's a girl for the colouring exercise eh ???
Mudge

Hmmm.
Don't assume it's a girl because the child is wearing a skirt. Fashion were very different in those days. They tended to be dressed all the same.

meles,
I appreciate your comment, but I actually based my conclusion on the face when I enlarged it. However, I appreciate it could well be a boy. It's a really hard one to call 8) 8)

Aw, Mudge! That's lovely colouring! But I thought it was a boy!! :-\ :-\
-
Yes I would go with a boy too ::)...why not do a blue one too Mudge or leave the dress white ;)

I tried to keep it open, but... so far everyone goes with my instinct that -
he's a boy!

Agree 100%. Don't be fooled by the style of clothing. I have seen photo's of my male ancestors in this type of "dress" when they were infants. It looks like a boy to me.
PS: The title of this posting, "Date & Sex Please", had me a bit worried at first. I thought I had logged onto one of those X-rated Lonely Hearts websites!

I'd say a boy but a bit earlier than Prue - say 1905 -ish

I thought it was a bit forward, myself...whatever happened to offering dinner and flowers?
...at least he said "please"...

This is a photo of my grandma holding my Dad in 1912. Dad was born October 1911, so not sure how old he was at time of photo. My Auntie standing in front was five. Both as you see were wearing dresses. To my mind, Dad looks like a little girl.

We had some lovely little dresses that my Dad wore, Su. he was born 1905 :D
How are you sweetie :)

Thanks everyone - sorry for the delay in replying but I've been away from the computer for a couple of days.
Super restorations - very much appreciated. The person I thought was the subject was my grandfather, born 1888. The datings would seem to put this in doubt - to me it looks 1890s, but I'm no expert. I've a real dearth of photos for my family in their early years, so I've nothing to compare it with.
Sorry if the post title was provocative - but I've never had so many Chatters read my messages before, so it did work!
