I would be really grateful if anyone could offer any help on the following:
My ggGrandfather Thomas Dawson b1824-1831 in Macclesfield married in 1882 (second marriage as down as widower) an Ellen Furley and had 2 children. Prior to this he was with a Elizabeth Edge/Heywood with children between 1864 and 1873.
On his marriage certificate to Ellen he lists his father as John Dawson a Blacksmith. Previously some research done for my American uncle identified his father as Thomas Dawson who married Margaret Alman by Banns 13.8.1821.
I am really at a standstill as to his birthdate, parents, where he was 1841-1861 census's being listed in Lancashire 1871-1891 when he died 20.6.1891.
Would welcome any help please.

Hi there, Yes its one and the same. I thought he lived at Mopside, Astley?
I am looking for his birth date and for his parents and whether he was married to Elizabeth Edge as his second marriage stated widower. On all the childrens birth certificates, he is down as father.

Thanks for my responses, they were really apreciated. I understand Thomas Dawson to be the same person logged as birthplace Stockport and Macclesfield. Cam up north, saw his grave but all buildings now flatted. I am still trying to find his mother and father Thomas Dawson and Margaret Alman who married 13.8.1821 St Peters Church, Prestbury, Macclesfield.

Hello Janette welcome to RootsChat.
I can see two different members called Janette chapman the only difference is that one has a "." in between the names - if this is you on both profiles I can if you confirm merge the two profiles. At the moment I do not know which profile you are picking up your notifications on?
The second profile had only made 1 post, to access all RootsChat functions including the private chat it is required that you make a couple of post which you have now done so.

Do you have the marriage to Ellen Furley? It's on the Lancs OPC site :)
Also Alma's marriage and baptisms for the children :)
-
What info are you wanting?
We don't have to be related to help you look. But as you say you already know quite a bit, we don't want to be going over old ground and spending time finding what you already have.

From the 1882 marriage register he was then aged 48, widower, a butcher at 18 Turner's Buildings, Weaste, father John Dawson, blacksmith.
Per the 1881 census for 18 Turner's Buildings:
Thomas Dawson, married, 50, Potted Meat Maker, Macclesfield, Cheshire
William Dawson, son, 17, Potted Meat Maker, Astley, Cheshire
Thomas Dawson, son, 12, Astley
Alma Dawson, daur, 10, Astley
Frank Dawson. son, 6 Gorton, Lancs
Frederick Dawson,son, 2 Salford, Lancs
Ellen Dawson. daur, 21 Birmingham, Warwickshire
I am sure that you will already have all this, Janette, but this may help others to trace the family back for you.

I am just drawing attention to the other posters thread so that we don't spend time looking for information that has already been found ;)

Hello, I am back doing the Dawson family history. I found the copy of the london Gazette details of Thomas Dawson's bankrupcy etc. I don't know if I'm looking correctly but the 1841 /1851/1861 give a Thomas dawson of Stockport/Macclesfield as a Silk Dyer then in 1865 he is known as a farmer and potted meat make. I am therefore unsure if one and the same persons. During 1861 and 1873 he is in a relationship with Elizabeth edge and they have 5 children with middle name Edge so assume unmarried.
In 1879 he is living with Ellen Furley and has 3 children between 1879 and 1873 marrying Ellen in 1882 naming himself as a widower on marriage certificate although I can find no previous marriage. Also naming his father as John Dawson although I had researched and found a Thomas Dawson marrying a Margaret Alman in 1821 in Prestbury, Cheshire.
I am still looking for any links between the supposed parents and Thomas the son who has an approximate dob as 1825-1831. I appear to be going round in circles as I have Thomas 's will where he names the children so that ties in but his past life and parentage is proving difficult and I would appreciate any further help I can get please.
In 1891 he dies leaving a will to yet another woman!
