Can anyone please do alook up on passenger lists to Canada circa 1886-1888 for Miss G Wilson or gertrude Wilson she was born 1866.
Regards Ken

Ken,
Do you know what part of Canada she might have arrived at and where she was coming from?
Where was she born?

Josephine

Hello Josephine. Gertrude Wilson was born in 1866 at Cheddar, Somerset. England.
She was emigrating to Rat Portage, Ont. Canada to be with her older sister Agnes Wilson Hawley. .
I think she either sailed from London or Liverpool .
She married William Howard in 1890, the 1891 census does not say when she arrived in Canada, but I have not been able to look at the 1901 or 1911 census. to see if that info is detailed

1901 and 1911 Canadian census (free) available at www.automatedgenealogy.com. Be sure and click to see scanned images as more information os given than on the transcribed pages.

Ken,
I've had a look at the 1901 and 1911 census images and neither one lists her year of immigration.
I searched for her on Ancestry and didn't see a match on the "Canadian Border Crossings" list.
Have you tried these free sites:
Immigrant Ship Transcribers Guild -- transcriptions but no images:
http://www.immigrantships.net/
ArchivaNet (Canadian government) -- images but no transcriptions:
http://www.collectionscanada.ca/archivianet/passenger/index-e.html
On the ArchiviaNet site, I searched on: "1886" and "quebec" and "liverpool" and got 61 results (images of 61 ship lists). You have to search through the images, page by page. It might not be so bad, since you know approximately when she arrived.
If you don't have any luck with that, do you know when she died? Perhaps her obit might mention when she came to Canada.
Regards,
Josephine

You're welcome, Ken!
I wonder if the library in Kenora might be able to look up her obit for you:
http://mykenora.com/myk/default.asp?scid=432
Some libraries have an index of local deaths/obits.
If her obit doesn't tell you when she came here, then I guess it's more hours of "Happy Trawling to You" (through the ship lists, I mean). ;)
Regards,
Josephine
