Hello, I'm trying to pin down the link between the following:
Elisa (spelling?) Marett b. ? circa 1803
mother of (?)
Eliza Dare (nee Marett?) b. St.Helier 1835 (possibly 1825) d.1897 Liverpool
mother of
Harriet E. Dare b. St.Helier 1861
i've linked these via the following:
1881 & 1891 Census: Harriet E.Dare & Eliza Dare (mother) living in Liverpool. (1881 Dare is mistranscribed as DAN)
1871 Census: Harriet E.Dare & Elisa Marett (grandmother) living in St.Helier. Eliza Dare (of the right age) does not clearly appear in the 1871 census - i've checked permutations of names.
I'm interested in proving this link - and finding out name of ? Dare who married Eliza (& fathered Harriet).
If anyone know's any other siblings etc etc that'd be appreciated!
Am slowly working through all the progeny of Harriet Dare in Liverpool area .... but the CI's are a way away!
Thanks for any help!

Hi there,
While this is not a direct answer to you specific posting may be of interest but may also not be any connection, you never know.
In the birth index for St Helier 1842-1877 there is an entry for
Eliza Jane Dare for the period 1/8/42 to 30/9/43
Page 19
If you can confirm a connection you will be able to otain a copy of the cert from The Superintendent Registrar for St Helier.
Good Luck

thanks for the response.
this Eliza Dare appears in the 1881 census living in Stoke Damerel, Devon.
possibly (at best) she could be a sister-in-law to Eliza Dare (nee Marett) b.1835 ish.
The address Harriet E Dare & Elisa Marrett (widow) were living at in 1871 was 3 Poonah Rd, St.Helier.
Harriet then turns up in Liverpool with her mum Eliza Dare (widow) in 1881.

Following some more info received ...
Can anyone find out if there are any Parish Register info from St.Helier area for the following:
Births
Eliza Merritt (or Marett or variations!) b. circa 1835
Harriet Eliza Dare b. approx Sept-Oct 1860
Marriages
Eliza Merritt & Charles Dare from 1855-1860
(guessing from birth of Harriet)
Deaths
Eliza Merritt (b. 1803) between 1871-1881
Charles Dare from 1861 to 1881
Anything along any of these lines greatly appreciated!

Marriages
Eliza Merritt & Charles Dare from 1855-1860
(guessing from birth of Harriet)
Hi I have found their marriage -
St Helier, 5 October 1859
Charles Dare 34 widower; Mariner Born: Maldon Newton, Dorset; Father: John Dare, gardener
Eliza Ann Marett 25 spinster; - Born: St Helier; Father: John Maret, miner (?)
(Licence)
Given this information I would expect to find Eliza's birth circa 1834 - but a search of the St Helier parish church baptism index was not fruitful. She may have been baptised in another parish - or not at all - so this needs checking another time.
Births
Eliza Merritt (or Marett or variations!) b. circa 1835
Harriet Eliza Dare b. approx Sept-Oct 1860
I did find the birth of Harriet Eliza Dare -
born 2 Oct 1860, baptised 21 Oct 1860,
daughter of Charles Dare, coachman, and Eliza Ann Marret, his wife.
(It is usual in Jersey to use the wife's maiden name).
I hope this helps.

Mike
Thanks for this - helps immensely!
... and in one of those true quirks of research my wife & I share Charles & Eliza's wedding anniversary (just 137 years out).

Bumped!
Still looking for a death for Charles DARE sometime between 1861 & 1881.
Suspect that this prompts his widow (& child) to move to Liverpool. Would be great to put a timeframe on that move!
-
A bit more info - in case you don't have it:
1861 census St Helier district 31:
DARE
Charles head marr 37 cab prop. born Eng
Eliza wife marr 26 born St Helier
Harriet dau 6 months born St Helier
Eliza Merrit m/law wid 58 retired laundress born Eng
Charles Dare does not seem to be in the 1871 census, so I have looked for a death of Charles between 1861-1871, but nothing found anywhere in Jersey registers.

Thanks Mike
I had the 1861 data.
Eliza turns up in 1881 as a widow in Liverpool (with Harriet). But i can't find any record of any of them, anywhere, in 1871.
It may be that Charles died in Liverpool or at sea (if he was a mariner as suggested by marriage cert).
Thanks for looking!

I am confused.
My search shows my ancestors John and Susanne Gough plus 5 children also living at 3 Poonah road at the time of the 1871 census.
-
There were 4 shared households in 3 Poonah Rd in 1871.
Gough's were census household no 110, Merrit/Dare no 112.

Another Bump!
from 1851 Census i've found Charles (transcribed as DATE - close!) Looks like his first marriage was to a Harriet COCKRAM - i believe this to be her married name as she has two sons in tow with that surname.
Charles is given as born in 1823 and was 12 years younger than Harriet.
If there's a wedding reference at all in the Jersey Register pre-1851 i'd be eternally grateful (again!).
trying to confirm it's the same chap from Maiden Newton .....

Hi new to the site. Would be interested to swap notes on Eliza Dare from St Helier. Jersey. Is oleg_mcnoleg still on here? It looks like we are looking for the same people!
