Title: Robson & Siviter Marriage
Post by: aidansrest on Tuesday 16 October 07 12:54 BST (UK)
Hi
Can anybody help me trace the marriage of my ggg grandfather, William Robson and his wife, Elizabeth Siviter.
Elizabeth was a widow, previously married to George Siviter in Wallsend.  She had two sons by this marriage, James born in 1837 and Joseph in 1839, both in Wallsend.  Elizabeth's maiden name was Roseby and she was born in Wallsend around 1813.
Elizabeth was living with her family in Sunderland during the 1841 census but was widowed by 1845.
My gg grandfather, John Robson, was born in 1849 in Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, so I presume that her and William had married between 1841-1851 but I can't find any trace of a marriage on FreeBMD or the Sunderland Registrars online index.
William was born in Bishopwearmouth around 1822 but his family had moved to Gateshead by the 1851 census although William remained in Sunderland.
Could anybody help to find his marriage!
Thanks
Sue

Both of the above are only partial indexes and still being compiled by volunteers.  The full GRO index can be searched at your nearest main library or if you have an Ancestry subscription

Hi Carole,
The frustrating thing is that I actually work in a library and I have access to 'ancestry' but Elizabeth's second marriage to William Robson does not appear.
I can only assume that they married prior to 1849 as that is when their first son together, John, my gg grandfather, was born, but as yet, no trace!

Hi Sue

It may even be possible that she never actually married William even though she assumed his surname - I have a similar situation with my family history.

regards, Graham

Hi Graham
Yes, I'm beginning to think that, unfortunately, that may be the case!
