Hi Kaye,

In my husband's tree we have loads of Janneys back as far as the early 1800s. They are all around Crowle in the Isle of Axhomle.

Maybe another branch.

Anne.

Hi - Re: Janneys of Fulstow 1800s

New to this but very interested in Janney connection... suffering from contradicting info! If someone could clarify with other records would appreciate it...  Janneys (1851) census in Fulstow: 2 families lived next door to each other (heads: Solomon (56) and William (55)) my great great grandmother - daughter Ellen Janney 12 years (born 1839) - recorded as visitor at house 55 & noted as daughter of carpenter (Solomon). By 1861 census she shows as being aged 18 and servant. (mistake in record (born 1843?) but her marriage record to Edward Parkin (30.11.1863) lists William as father of bride. Mmmm? Did both families have a daughter Ellen? There seems to be a few Janneys with the same name knocking about...
I hope I have following format okay!!

+ William & Elizabeth Janney                       and Edward Simpson (no mother name)
+ Solomon Janney born 1811 & Mary Ann Janney (nee Simpson; born Louth 1819) - married 1841
+ Ellen Janney b. 1839) married Edward Parkin 1863 Fulstow - moved to Grimsby by 1871
 + Ellen Parkin b. 1871
(family left for NZ aboard Halcione in 1875 with 3 daughters)
+ Ellen Parkin married .... Hunter (widowed) remarried Carl Schreiber
+ Phyllis Evelyn Schreiber m. Arthur Wellington
     + Jennifer Wellington (my mother)
       + me
er... is this as clear as mud

Hi - Re: Janneys of Fulstow 1800s

Did both families have a daughter Ellen?

Hi clairedav, welcome to RootsChat :)

To answer that question ... yes.  As well as the one "visiting" William and Ann, there was one in Solomon's house - too young to have been on 1841 census.

The "12 in 1851" was apparently daughter of an older William and Dinah as she was with them, aged 1 in 1841. http://tinyurl.com/68r8cds

I shall get back to you - I have lots of Janney distant cousins.

I think the explanation will be that there are two Ellens - Solomons dtr Ellen married John Sowden

Best regards,

Jacky

Your Ellen dtr of William and Dinah Gooseman. Dinah Died in 1843 in North Thoresby and in 1851, William a widower was working for Edward Janney.

I have yet to find Williams parents. William reports born Srubby 1811.

Okay that puts a different spin on it - a completely different William Janney. (of course it wouldn;t be the neighbour William Janney!! hahaha) Mmm wish the Janneys had been a bit more adventurous with their range of names!! Yes because my Ellen definately married Edward Parkin... okay.

Thank you... now have a different direction to go...

My maternal grandmother was Winifred Lucy Janney, daughter of Abraham Janney (b1850) and Elizabeth Lindley (b1850 d bef 1886). Winifred was born in Bury St Edmunds in 1881 but after her mother died she was raised by her grandfather Locking Janney (b1813). She married William Bell from Lincolnshire and they emigrated to Australia, he in 1912, she & 3 children in 1914. They first settled in Brighton-le-Sands in Sydney and later moved to Armidale, They had 2 sons and 6 daughters, my mother Olive Lucy was the 3rd, b1909.
