Hi David
1851
I carnt see a William Mason born or living in Linton Herefordshire, but strangley enough there is a William Grubham born there, with parents Joseph and Caroline, Joseph is a bricklayer
only other William Mason born about the right time are these two
William Mason born 1843 Colwall parents James and Hannah living at Colwall
William Mason born 1843 Cradley parents William and Ann living at Cradley

Hi Ricky
I wonder if the 1841 will reveal a connection (brother sister?) between your Jospeh and Caroline Grubham and Ann Grubham (Aunt of William Mason)?
are there any William Meason in Linton in 1851?

Facts:
1841 Caroline Mason (b. 1821) Joseph Grub unlocated son Willliam 9m
1851 Carloine Grubham (b. 1823) with Joseph Grubham son William 10y
1861 Caroline Mason (b. 1821) servant in house of Joseph
perhaps they separated or divorced / were they ever married?
-
Hi David
If your asking for my opinion, I dont think they married, but I could be wrong, but I carnt see a marriage for them. Looking on the census sheets the surname could be Grubham or Grabham, but most of them have been transcribed as Grabham. Will go back to the 1841 to see if I can find Joseph.

Any indication of the relationships amongst:
1841
Thomas Grubham 25 mason born in county Head?
Hannah " 30? "
Harriet " 50 " Mother/Widow?
Richard " 18 ag lab "
Joseph " 20 " "
and
1841
Anthony Mason 72 ag lab born in county Head?
Mary Mason 42 born in county Dau?
Caroline Mason 20 born in county Grand Dau?
William " 9 month born in county
-
This all fits together quite nicely, but w/o absolute evidence in places. I think:
1. Anthony Mason had son unknown who married Mary who mothered Caroline Mason.
2. Unknown married Harriet (b 1791ish) who mothered Thomas, Richard and Joseph. Thomas married Ann b.1812ish (mis translated as Hanah).
3.Joseph Grubham never married Caroline and they had James, John (who married Sarah), William (who maried Charlotte Caswell), Thmas, George and Annie.
Am I right?
-
Hi David
1841 census dos'nt give what each family member relationship is. Could be dau/ son/ wife , visitor, married or unmarried. I dont think Caroline ever got married to Joseph Grubham/Grabham ???
