Hi,
I am doing a one name study of the Rossiter family and am looking for information please about the parents and siblings of Thomas Rossiter born circa 1851 in Bethersden.
He married Ruth Baker at Blean in the March Qtr of 1868.
Any information would be greatly appreciated please. TIA.

Hi CatOne,
Many thanks for the posts.
I suspect Thomas born 1851 is related to the families you have listed but infortunately I cannot prove it at the moment.
Is there any way of accessing Thomas's marriage record please to see who his father is?
He could fit in between Walter born 1848 and Elizabeth born 1852 but I don't understand why he does not appear on the censuses.
Best wishes

There are lots of ROSSITERS on this site :D
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gypsy/gypsy.htm
but I can't see the baptism of Thomas ROSSITER born 1851. ???
-
Hi bearkat,
Thanks for that.
I tried FreeBMD but could not find a birth record for him in 1851 either.
I have him here in the 1881 Census:-
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/household_record.asp?HOUSEHOLD_CODE=1881BR_1047178&HOUSEHOLD_SUB=1&frompage=99
Assuming he is a romany/gypsy/traveller he may be at the same location in the previous census.
The only other one I could find was Thomas Rositer born March Qtr 1852 in the St George Of The East Registration district.
Just wondering if the Thomas born Charlton, Kent in 1846 earlier in the thread and this Thomas born 1851 are one and the same.
Best wishes

In 1881, on the same page as your Thomas, theres also a James Rossiter, born Milton Kent, thats why I thought maybe this could be the same family. Traveller families seem to have varying names/ages from census to census :-\ Will check out other censuses...
added: theres also a Jacob Rossiter aged 28 over the page, born M....stone, who would fit with grandson Jacob in 1861 (age out a few years)

Hi CatOne,
Thanks for that.
Maybe another census will produce a different birthplace or birth year for Thomas. This has happened in other Rossiter branches so it is a possibility.
Kent Rossiters have turned up in Milton, Sittingbourne, West Malling, Elham, Charlton, Dover, Canterbury, Ashford, West Ashford to name but a few!! LOL!!
Best wishes

Also, in 1881, there is a William Harris and wife Elizabeth in the next caravan. I think this could be his sister from the 1861 census born Sheerness -
Marriage -
Elizabeth Rossiter March 1874 Milton Vol 2a Page 943
Grooms - William Harriss or William Henry Bloxham
-
and this could be Margaret and husband -
Margaret Rossiter March 1874 Dover Vol 2a Page 1091
Groom - Francis Allum

Not sure if you want to follow the girls, but her movements could be a clue to the movements of her parents and siblings.
Do you have brother Walter in 1901?

Hi Rita, I think Elvie was my great grandma. My Grandad was Thomas, Elvie’s son. (Buddy)
I would be very interested in any information you have as I have very minimal on my fathers side as Grandad was brought up by his Aunt as was his brother Barney.
Thank you. Marie
