Title: Look up please, William Thomas Morris - Llanfyllin
Post by: davidhs on Monday 10 December 07 00:54 GMT (UK)
I'm new to this so I'm not sure if this is possible.

My g grandfather, William Thomas Morris was married in Llanfyllin, 3 Sept 1897  to Jemima Evans ( Jul, Aug, Sept - fol 11b page 818). On the marriage cert his age is 23, his father is William Morris (Deceased)

I can't seem to find him on any census and I'm trying to find his d.o.b. and parents. Can anyone help please?

Many thanks
David

Hi David

There is a William T Morris (about the right age) in the 1881 census born Welshpool (11 1/2 miles from Llanfyllin) with father Morgan and mother Mary. Have you seen this?
There is a marriage in Llanfyllin between Morgan Morris and a Mary Twist in June 1871 11b 375 which is about correct.
The family is also there in 1891 inc William but his second initial is G.
I know that doesn't square with the marriage cert and have looked for a death  for Morgan but the only one in the period is in 1899 with age 84 at death. There are possibles for William however.
There is a birth for a Morgan in Montgomery that fits and of course plenty for William.
Was William junior living at home when he married - maybe the address is the same. What was father's occupation - maybe that fits.
If they are the correct family it may mean checking the Parish registers to check on births for father and son and the possible marriage.
Hope it makes some sense.

Peter

Hi Peter

Thanks for responding so promptly.

I don't think this is the same William Morris. William jnr. is down on the marriage cert as a farm labourer, William senior (deceased) is entered as a farmer.

The key fact which I did not mention before is that it was a Wesleyan Methodist marriage which took place in the district of Llanfyllin but at Sion Chapel, Llanrhaiadr in the counties of Denbigh and Montgomery.

His address is Tynyclawdd or Tyrclawdd or Tynydawdd or Tynydawdd, Llanrhaiadr-Yr-Mochnant.

The other bit of information is that it was signed in the presence of John Evan Morris who could be an uncle or better still a brother so may well be sharing a residence at some time.

Thanks again

David

David

In 1881 there is a William Morris born Pennant 1872 son of William , Farmer, and with a brother John Evan. This shows in an Ancestry search and also in familysearch.org

Have a look and let me know what you think. It looks ok and if so and you do not have access to Ancestry I will look for them in 1891 and 1901

Let me know

Peter

Hi Peter

Yes I'm sure this is the one, thanks very much.

I did a Google map search and came up with :Pennant, Llangedwyn and Pennant, Llangynog, there is also a Pennant-Melangell which is near Llangynog. It seems to be a very common name, I have a relation in that area with a house name of Rhos Pennant.

I don't have access to Ancestry so I would be very grateful if you could look for them in 1891 and 1901.

Thanks

David

Hi David

not sure about 1891 - a possible as a servant on a farm.

However in 1901 he was married to Jemimah and living at 37 Chapel St Rhosllanerchrugog Nr Wrexham and working as a coal miner. On this occasion born in Llanfyllin and aged 28.
Jemimah born Llanrhaiadr, Denbs aged 24 - Mary E aged 3 b. Llanrhaiadr and William T age 2 born Llanfechan, Mont.

Hi Peter

That's great, I've discovered William T's age, although I'm surprised my grandmother Elizabeth Winifred who was born 24 Feb 1901 wasn't listed.

I've also discovered William Thomas' parents names and his brothers and sister.

Did you try looking for William snr, Elizabeth or John Evan in the 91 census?

Many thanks

David

Hello

I think I am possibly related via the Morris'.  I have just started trying to trace my great grandfathers family and they appear to be from Llanfyllin.  His name was John Morris.
