Post by: Christopher on Monday 17 December 07 22:53 GMT (UK)
The Perpetual Emigrating Fund Company  (http://historytogo.utah.gov/utah_chapters/pioneers_and_cowboys/perpetualemigratingfundcompany.html) assisted some 26,000 immigrants -- about thirty six percent of approximately 73,000 Latter-day Saints who emigrated from Europe to the United States between 1852 and 1887. Six hundred and thirty five such emigrants, many of whom
were members of  the Martin Handcart Company,  (http://www.webster-family.org/martinhandcart/index.html) embarked at Liverpool, on 22nd May, 1856,
on the packet ship "Horizon" on their way to Boston, Iowa and on to Salt Lake City.
