Hi Surfmate

There is not an obvious candidate in the Merthyr area.  These two are the nearest in age:

Thomas RICHARDS age 74 born Llandilo (sic) Carmarthenshire, with wife Elizabeth in Merthyr

Thomas RICHARDS age 53 born Merthyr, with wife Esther and daughter Ann EVANS, son-in-law Evan EVANS.

If either of these looks right I can get further details for you.  When posting it is helpful to include as much detail as you possibly can (place of birth, family names etc) especially with a "popular" name like Richards!  :)

regards, Arranroots

Thanks Arranroots,

He is originally from Llanwenog, Montgomeryshire. His daughter Sarah is listed as living in Jackson's Bridge in Merthyr on her marriage cert in 1869. Thomas's occupation is a baker. His wife's name is Margaret and they had other chn that may still be living at home.

Hello Surfmate

Thanks for the extra info, it makes all the difference (there were 688 Thos Richards in Wales in 1871!!)

This is yours, note listed as RICHARD

RG10/5390 ED3 F50 P17 SCH85

RICHARD Thomas H M 59 Grocer born Llanwenog, Mont
Margaret W M 45 (or 65?) born Trefeglwys, Mont
Mary dau un 24 Assistant grocer born Trefeglwys, Mont

It is a very dark, difficult to read return.  Have saved it if you want it e-mailed (PM me).  Address looks like Pantegwenith Street, but happy to be corrected on that one!

Thanks NigelG!!

I'm almost proud of almost being able to read a 13 letter Welsh name - you should see the handwriting!! I knew those years living in Swansea would come in useful one day. LOL  ;D
