KP, The Knock records don't start until 1868. There may be the odd one or two from earlier years, but County Mayo has the least records of all the Counties. You could try ordering up film through LDS - if it's available and search them all. Believe me, I've been there, visited the area twice and I still cannot locate the family.
Good luck

thanks.
i don't give up easily i will try all means
one day maybe i will stumble over a find

Ann, I am not trying to be negative. I know just how hard it is. There are days when I am climbing walls, but some records were not kept. Have a look at this website and see if you can 'glean' anything from it.
www.from-ireland.net/mayo/mayorcindex.htm - Click on Bekan and have a look.
On this particular website, type in Flatley and see if there is anything to help you: www.rootsweb.com/~irlmayo/records.htm
good luck

Ann,
Do not have any info on John Flatley but your messages interested me only because I have found Flatley ancestors from Knock. Namely Thomas Flatley who married Julia Charles. One child Patrick Flatley immigrated to Boston Massachusetts mid 1880's.
I hope you find your John and I will be watching your messages for familiar names of my own.

Ann, you could try this site, but be warned, it's pay to view and you will soon get through the credits!!! Unfortunately, it will only say Mayo and not the individual areas, but there are plenty of Flatley's and Boyles listed.

Ann,
Do you have a public tree going on Ancestry.com? If you do, then I just found your tree. If you don't then there is a tree being built which includes John Flatley & Margaret Boyle. Their children were Bridget, William, John, Mary & Patrick.

Ann,
Just thought I'd throw in that I also have Flatley's from Knock area in my tree. Mostly connected to my Kearns family from that area.
Some from Drum and Cullentragh, others from Falmore, Parish Bekan. One or two from Wingfield and Leachta. Some O'Connell, Egan and Morley interspersed through the Flatley tree.
Drop me a note at (*) if you'd like to trade notes.
Regards,
Joe

ann, My late husband's great grandfather was John Flatley born LeCarrow knock in 1836 He married Margaret Morley (born 1831 Wingfield Drum). John died in Knock 1892-95. Margaret in 1908. John's father was William (died 1891-1900), mother named McGloughlin. Margaret Morley's father was Austin Morley, mother Mary Kearns.
John and Margaret had several children including a daughter Mary Agnes who lived in New Hampshire and a son Dominick who was my husband's grandfather. Dominick Flatley married Nora Flatley (same name no relation) in 1905. Nora's father was William (1831-1898-1900) and her mother was Bridget O'connell (1831-1898) both from Ballyhaunis. Dominick was a stone mason and became quite prominent in our little town of Manchester, MA. I have more and pix. Email me at (*).

My John Flatley had siblings: William,Patrick, Dominick,Bridget,Michael. I never heard tht they lived in England.
-
I have some photographs of Flatley Headstones in Knock Cemetery if anyone wants to PM me
-
I have a John Flattley born around 1804 in Knock. He had seven sons, the youngest of which is my g-g-grandfather James, born 1846 in Knock. I have absolutely no idea who the other six brothers are - no names, nothing.
John and James turn up living together in Tottenham, Middlesex, England in the 1871 census. The following year they both emigrated to Australia together. Then John just disappears.
I have photos of them both, along with a photo of John's wife, Mary Harrison (d. 1870, buried at Kensal Green Cemetery, England).
I would love to know what happened to the other six brothers.
-
Okay I found John's death certificate - he died in Richmond, Victoria, Australia in 1890 (86 yrs old, confirming born 1804). Usefully, his death certificate lists his parents' names - his father is another John Flatley and his mother is a Mary Rutledge. Given the first borns are usually given a parent's name, I'm wagering this John and Mary were born somewhere around 1780. Any leads? Hoping this might be in someone's tree somewhere, I've drawn a blank.

Hi.
You might find eastmayo.org of some help. Not all of the pages are accessible unfortunately.
-
Thanks Padraig I'll give that a shot.
-
Hi, I've had a quick look and a bit disappointing.
Flatley's were numerous in and around Kilmovee, even the family of the Flatley with the dancing feet, which is within walking distance to Ballyhaunis. Irishgraveyards.ie has a number of Flatley's buried in Ballyhaunis with the Townland they lived in marked on the headstones. It's going to be tricky but worth looking into.
You might find a combination with Rutledge and Flatley as sponsors on eastmato.org which might point you in the right direction.
-
My grandfather was born at Ballyhaunis baptized at the Bekan church. His birthdate was Feb. 4, 1874 and one of his sponsor was Kate Flately. My grandfather was Thomas Paul Hoban and his parents were Thomas Hoban and Ellen Sloyan. His grandparents were Patrick Hoban and Bridget Bones. The baptism record was found on LDS Film #1279209. My grandfathers home still stands today at Lisbane but the roof is in very bad shape. 21 Flateley's show up on Griffiths at Bekan.

What is estimato.org? Is that a genealogy site for Ireland?
-
I'm doing some research on my McNeive and Charles ancestors from Mayo/Roscommon/Cavan. My maternal great-great-grandmother, Bridget Charles, was Julia Charles Flatley's older sister.

Does everyone know about a forum called Ireland xo Reaching Out. www.irelandxo.com/ireland
It's organised by parish and county.

... and not very well organised either :-\
Errigal Parish (Co. Londonderry) "Another name for this parish is called Arrigle which is in the townland of Coleraine. It has a capacity of 5401 people. A monastery that was built there was founded in 589 AD by a leader called St. Columb, it remained that way for at least 400 years until a force from Denmark conquered it into ruins."
About 12 or so miles from the town (not townland) of Coleraine and I'm not sure if 'Arrigle' was used locally...
Other parishes have equally strange details ::)
