Everyone seems to be able to access the files but me.
I am getting a message from Adobe Reader "expected a dict object" I have no idea what that means.
At the bottom of the screen there is a message "An error has occured while trying to use this document.
Is the problem in my PC?

They have changed the format. it used to be saved as a word document, now they have it as a PDF

Looks like a fantastic resource but the two surnames I need to search aren't available yet so I shall keep checking the site until they do appear.

Hi ,
does anyone know when the BMD indexes online, will be completed ? The surnames I am needing are not yet online. I used to go down to the Watt library quite often, and have found the indexes a great source, but due to family commitments and their opening hours, I am now unable to get down there.
Gill

Chrissy send me a PM with the names you are researching and your email address - I can then send them on to you. Did that with kathy, and she didn't have any problems opening them up that way.
Gill I would email the watt library or the person who did the web site and ask them
-
Just to let everyone know the Greenock BMD has been updated 28/06/08 :)
-
Yes, noticed it's been updated but the surnames I really, really want to see haven't been added yet. Will just have to keep waiting.
-
thanks for this...... :-) Have a german ancestor who appears in port glasgow about 1854/1855 this is fascinating......

No Wilson's yet but then again I expect that one will be rather large :)

This BMD from the Watt Library holds alot of info. Well done on notifing forum about it.
Unfortunately I cannot link up any of my family names, however it helped me to possibly identify the name of the place my ggg grandmother died as Prospecthill House (death Cert is hard to read.
Does anyone know what this was, I saw marriages registered there.....any info would be great.
-
This is a great resource and I have found some information to help me grow my tree.
However, I believe that the information comes from the BMD entries in the papers which were inserted by families - and would therefore be limited to those who could afford to pay for the intimations - plus from items of news and as such tend to be deaths due to accident, suicide and murder.
Sadly, the vast majority of people would not have had their hatches, matches or dispatches recorded, but it is certainly worth a look.
Another great source at the Watt is a surname index (including first name, occupation and age) for most censuses in the Inverclyde area. This is great if you thing your relatives may have been in the area at the time but have no idea where they may have lived.

Mark the Watt library now has a resident genealogist - they are looking for volounteers to upgrade their website. I phoned and put my name down
-
its something like that I have been looking to do
now that I am not working (to much time on my hands) :)
Mary, could I email them to put my name forward
my hearing is very low at the minute and very difficult to make
people out on the phone,
Elaine
-
Mary,
Do you know what the remit of the resident Genealogist is.
Is it to keep the BMD Index updated or is it to assisted people with their research.
The BMD index wasn't coming up when i searched on google, hence my re-posting of the link.
I do use those links quite often and had a lot of success in the beginning.
If only we could have the next 10 years worth :-).
Good luck with the application. Mark.
-
Just noticed that you had already posted this link sorry. Need to stop looking for things when i'm tired. :-)
-
LOL Mark - I reposted after you had posted your link. Mark as as far as I know this was an on going project when Lesley Couperwright was there, as I was given all the Munros for around 1971 I think it was. I asked Lesley if I could come in 1 day a week and help type the BMD indexes out and she said it wasn't allowed :'(
Elaine send them an email - I think it was a James I spoke to or if you are in town pop into the Watt - the library not the pub ;)

As of 2022 [?] the Intimations were removed from online. The reason? I was told "a lot of the information we had available online was in a PDF format that no longer meets the criteria around accessibility detailed in current legislation for the public sector so they have had to be taken down."
However, I downloaded several files many years ago for my personal use. I've now uploaded them to https://mega.nz/folder/ML90AZiA#YjiIf2hzH35TizQ4vSINBQ
Enjoy.
