Title: Pilsworth
Post by: D Sharpie on Tuesday 15 January 08 18:32 GMT (UK)
Here's another little mystery to get your teeth into.......not on the epic scale of the marrage mystery but here goes........

My grandfather was born in 1902, Arthur Pilsworth, Thorne June qtr 9c 914.

His mother was unmarried at the time. She was 18. Her name was Hannah Mary Pilsworth, born dec qtr 1884 Thorne, 9c 765. What I wanted to know is, can you see any reference to her on any census? I would love to find out who her parents were, and who her brothers and sisters were. My grandad never knew his father but there was a rumour as to who it was......and his name was Arthur too....so did she name him after his dad or after her father as was tradition. She married a Henry Whitehead in 1904 but my grandad kept Pilsworth as his surname.

Thanks

Diane

Hi is there any chance that this Pilsworth family could actually be the Pilsworth/Nicholson family??It seems that a Thomas Pilsworth Nicholson b1862 married an Ann Cawkwell b 1857 and they had a daughter called Hannah Mary Pilsworth Nicholson.....my great gran possibly....

His father Thomas Pilsworth (possibly) b1834 married Harriett Nicholson (possibly)

Is there any way anyone could check the cesus info to see if there was infact 2 seperate families in the SAME area at the SAME time?

Could this be why I cannot find any info on the birth of my Thomas Pilsworth??

Please help  ???

If Daisy Ingamells is still under investigation, where was she living in 1950's, it may jog my memory into action.  Have vague recollections of name Daisy.

Can remember Herbert Rowley, Kate Rowley(nee Ingamells) and Rose Ingamells, they used to live on Balby Road,  opposite the Co-op Laundry.
Kate & Rose eventually ended up in the workhouse. It wasn't called that when they were residents, but that was its original use.

Previous to that they lived lived a short distance away at 15 Lister Avenue, where Rose ran a shop.

There is ample evidence on the BBC that the shop continued to serve the local community with Arkwright (aka Ronnie Barker) and Granville (aka David Jason).
taking over. ( BBC TV Comedy "Open all Hours" location.)

Hi all, am bringing this old thread back to the fore as I am trying to fing out any siblings of my great great grandfather Thomas Pilsworth born 18th march 1862, epworth, married Ann Cawkwell in 1880.

Did Thomas Pilsworth (Nickolson) have any brothers or sisters? His parents were Thomas Pilsworth and harriet Nickolson.

Thanks in anticipation

When I started Family History many years ago, my first enquiry was about Billy Pilsworth in Epworth. Fortunately I found some one who had known the family; they told me that though he was always known as Pilsworth, the official name  in records and on gravestones was Nicholson. I nearly gave up Family History there and then! If things like that could happen there was no hope of success!

Hello, D. Sharpie,   I haven't quite sorted this out!
In 1871, Harriet Nicholson was housekeeper( unmarried ) to Thomas Pilsworth. She had children, Thomas, Ann, John, Hannah, Isaac.
Thomas and Harriet were married in 1871.
Thomas was born in 1834.
1881, Thomas Pilsworth, with step children Ann, Hannah, Isaac, Fred and Fred. Also children, Helen, Ernest, William, and Alfred. No entry for Harriet.
1891, Fred PILSWORTH
1900 Fred NICHOLSON married Alice Hobson.
1901 census, Fred PILSWORTH
1911 census Fred NICHOLSON
The children of Fred Nicholson were known locally as Pilsworths.
Over to you!
