Title: Talkin' 'bout my generation- cousins, how far?
Post by: 7igerby7he7ail on Thursday 17 January 08 22:14 GMT (UK)
I  have had some spare time and not had ‘Tinternet’, so I was making lists and searching my files and I did a cousin count, well the last 3 generations of a 13 generation family tree.

What I have now that I ’ didn’t have’ 12 years ago when I started the tree.

This is just my paternal tree

20 Ist cousins
17 2nd cousins
21 3rd cousins
4 4th cousins
7 5th cousins
5 6th cousins
and
18 Ist cousins once removed
28 2nd cousins once removed
26 3rd cousins once removed
16 4th cousins once removed
6 5th cousins once removed
4 5th cousins twice removed
4 Half 5th cousins once removed
6 Half 6th cousins once removed
8 Half 7th cousins once removed
There are of course lots of cul de sacs and plenty of ancestors who I had no marriage data for, so ther must be a lot more out there.

Which has prompted me to ask, just how far do we go down the cousin route? Can we search for say, a 10th cousin twice removed or a half 7th cousin thrice removed?
