Title: Offer:Burials Barnston nr Gt Dunmow 1539-96,1629-1939, 1940-1981 & 1982-1992
Post by: essexbird2004 on Tuesday 29 January 08 11:10 GMT (UK)
Hi

Barnston, Essex is one of those small villages where a lot of outsiders (of this parish) were buried/married & baptised.

This is a quote from the parish register by the then priest in charge (P-in-C)  in March 1994

'My Predecessor as Rector of Barnston Rev A. Morgan Parry gave the Church wardens (and rural dean) to understand that he kept a Burial Register at the Vicarage, Little Dunmow but when he retired this was not found. The following lot was compiled from the inscriptions on the headstones.'
AR Jack.

This quote relates to Burials between 1940-1981!
If you are interested in any surname please post and i will give the extra information that is listed.

Hi Monica

I don't know if you know but way back when the letter 'U' also looked like the letter 'V'
so when checking for your Nevill(e)'s i would also ask people to check these alternatives spellings for NEWEL(L)

Matthew Nevill (could be Neuill) 24/12/1643
Old Father Neuell (could be NEVELL) age 100 2/9/1648
Mathew Nevil (could be NEUIL) 20/5/1657

Edith Mary Neville abode=Ounslow Green, Dunmow 23/4/1881 aged 3
Alfred William Neville abode =Ounslow Green, Great Dunmow 25/8/1884 aged infant

the rest i have are definately spelt NEWELL so please let me know if you want these listed

regards

Good morning, Kath,

Would you please be kind enough to look up the COLLARD(E)s for me.

Not sure if they are really mine yet, but would love to see some detailed burial information, family groups etc.

Thank you,

Edwina  :)

:D Thanks, Kath, isn't this COLLARD info fascinating? I wish they did this with every family. I love the idea that someone actually 'founded' the family!

Perhaps they're mine  8) (wishful thinking). I'll have to see where Albans is too, if it still exists.

Yeah totally fascinating  ;D

Albans was still about in March 1930 i only know this as there is a burial record for a Henry Barker and his abode is listed as Albans

if you go to the ERO website and type it in it may come up with something, maybe pictures/drawings of the house ( i am assuming it's a house)

Barnston have a village website too

As for doing this with every family i wish they did too

I can tell you that a few baptism records for MORETON list not only the parents but the grandparents too which is great stuff, it's because of one of these baptisms i decided to buy the Barnston fiche as it said one of the grandparents was of Barnston  ;D

The baptisms for MORETON i was looking at were from the early 1800's. ( Some of the GReat Waltham Fewell's went there!!)

anyway back to copying up what i started last night for you xx

Hi Kath,

Will not start a new thread re Albans, but just to say the house must still be there, because they built an extension in 2006!
http://www.barnstonvillage.co.uk/Parish_Council/Parish_Council_Minutes_2006/parish_minutes_13_Feb_2006.htm
The house is on the High Easter Road.

Thanks for this. I am out all day (in the rain, no doubt) but it sounds as if you are about to spend another happy day at the microfiches.

Best  ;D

Hello,
very first post for me...
am wondering if you would be able to checkRoydhouse burials for me please?
Charles Roydhouse was master of the Dunmow Workhouse from at least 1878 to his death there in Dec 1895.
His wife Emma also died in that quarter, she was originally from Henham.
One of their daughters Alice died age 21 in 1892.

Many thanks

lol Cathy

It's no problem hunnie :)

I must admit Roydhouse/roadhouse is not a name i have come accross at all in any of my Essex research....it seems an unusual surname so maybe you will have some luck with this surname, i'll keep an eye out for it in my travels mate

I've been posting here for quite a while and i still get lost hun

enjoy your travels on Rootschat.
